First DJ mixer

Post by lowpass » Sun Apr 26, 2009 6:11 pm

So I've got to the point where I have enough money to pick up some 1210's except I don't really know what to get if they don't come with a mixer.

I'm looking for something cheap (not poorly built)

2 channels maybe 3

not really interested in fx (basic shelved eq would be nice)

think thats about it, any recommendations / other things to consider?

edit : any difference between 1200's and 1210's? yes I am a newb but I really wanna get into vinyl sooon as :D

What is your budget for a mixer?

Have you had a little search? There are a few topics on mixers in here.

Don't buy a numark mixer.

1200's are Silver, 1210's are Black :)

£100 should set you up nice on ebay man :)

I paid £130 for my Vestax PCV 275, and it's a lovely piece of kit! Such a nice mixer to use, and superb build quality. Have a search for some more advice, or someone else might be able to help you a bit more on specific mixers, I haven't been shopping for a while!

^ pcv127/75 etc are always decent on the 2ndhand tip. only problem is that the crossfader WILL go, and it'll cost about $100 to replace it. which is my current situation.

w/ that said, it makes you really learn how to use the upfaders.

I was wondering about that, when I use traktor I normally use the crossfader to mix in my tracks (easier to do with a mouse I guess) but when I see other people do it they'll raise the other fader to the same volume as the other then drop the first track out, was wondering if theres a difference in sound? or any other reason why people do it this way?

yeah I use the up faders and usually keep the xfader in the centre unless im doing quick cuts.

It's just different ways of doing the same thing really.

As much as I want to hate on Numark, I hvent had a problem with my DXM 06 mixer. The FX are so-so but it has the lo mid hi kills.
But when it breaks or pisses me off it's time for a Vestax, or if I have enough cash a Rane 57sl.

Crossfaders are for girls!

I wasn't hating on Numark, just in my experience their "Budget" range of mixers are complete crap, had 4 break on me in about 3 months

buy a cheap mixer and expect it to fall apart and expect shit quality while it is working.

I would suggest you invest in something a bit better if you are serious about mixing.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

I bought some Numark mixer about 3 year ago for 140/150 quid, and its been nothing but pure awesome since I had it - no problems, no breakages, no fukken nothing but crisp sounds and sleeky smooth upfaders and x faders.

But yeh, I also don't use crossfaders, all about the ups yo!

Behringer roxx. Cheap - good funktionality and it's good.

Some people didn't have luck by buying behringer, and theyr aparate is after 2 weeks gon.

I allways had luck. Bought a 4 chanel mixer brand new for 120£ and it's stil working after 3 years perfect.
