Reason Automation

Post by mr. lizard » Tue Apr 28, 2009 7:24 am

I usually have no problem automating in Reason.

but now I am using a Combinator with a 6:2 mixer, 3 Subtractors and Scream.

I want to be able to programme the automation (of the LFO's) in the sequencer but it will not allow me to do this the usual way (Right click the LFO Rate button and select Edit Automation).

I can assign the LFO Rate to a nob on my midi keyboard but this is not the way I want to do it.

(I want all 3 of the Subtractor LFO Rates to work in unison by the way)

Any help is appreciated.

THANKS

Have you gone in the combinator and gone on show programmer then in there it should have your three subtractors and the scream just assign all the lfo to any of the rotarys for example all on one ?

Yeh, I did that and it allows me to assign and use the knob on the midi keyboard to change the rate of automation, but I want to be able to do it manually with my mouse in the sequencer, as using the knob doesnt give me the accuracy I need.

can't you just record using the knob to get a semi-rough version of how you want your automation then double click on the block in the sequencer and touch it up with the mouse? thats what I do anyways when I use reason on the odd occasion (reason4)

Well when you have done that there is a little button on the top of your sequencer that says automation click it and when it comes down it should say rotary 1 rotary 2 etc then click that and it should put the automation lane on your track , are you using reason 4 or 3 btw ?

Nah, the automation isn't appearing in the sequencer.

Cheers Doktor, I'll try doing that.

I'm confused here.

Surely if you tied all the subtractor LFO rate knobs to say Rotary 1 on the Combinator, you could just right click on the Rotary 1 knob and then click edit automation? The Rotary 1 knob would control the subs for you, whilst the automation lane controls Rotary 1.

If you need your LFO's tempo synced, PM me and I'll send you a Combinator skin that has the times mapped out.

Seen.

Even if your rack devicea are combined, you can still right click on each device and create a new sequencer track per unit.

That way, the Combi plays the notes while each individual track is used for automating the LFO

Thanks for that, got it sorted, assigned them to the Rotary knob and then right clicked - edit automation.
