MARY ANNE HOBBS Q&A
We caught up for a quick chat with BBC Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs to talk about our upcoming Wait… event this Friday May 1st. Here’s what the Queen of Experimental music had to say:
TTC: This will be the first time The Tuesday Club has put on a weekend event solely dedicated to dubstep and the more experimental end of bass music - what do you think of the line-up?
M/A HOBBS: The line-up is really comprehensive.. 3 tiers deep.. true garage pioneers MJ Cole and Sheffield's own Oris Jay.. alongside the DMZ crew who introduced the dubstep sound to the next generation in 2005.. and Toddla T the explosive new local star who is bringing the sound full circle.
TTC: Without forcing you to pick a favourite, which artist would you tip as 'absolute must see' on the night?
M/A HOBBS: Coki.. because it's so rare that he ever plays out.. it's a miracle to ever confirm a live date with him.
TTC: What do you like best about the Sheffield crowd?
M/A HOBBS: The hunger.. the ambition.. and the amazing exchange of energy you always feel with the Tuesday Club massive.
TTC: What's really exciting you in the world of dubstep and experimental music right now?
M/A HOBBS: It's really exciting to see Tuesday club booking Flying Lotus and The Gaslamp Killer... for me it's all about the West Coast sound emerging out of LA right now... check the film I made about the scene at www.youtube.com/maryannehobbstv
