Raggastep

Post by .onelove. » Sun May 03, 2009 6:45 pm

Hah maybe doesn't require the shite attempt at a sub-genre title, but REGGAE INFLUENCED DUBSTEP didn't have the same ring to it.

Basically, I've been following Dubstep since early '07, but still a bit of an outsider so to speak so end up rinsing songs that were released years ago.

ANYWAY, can someone point me towards some names/songs that have that reggae feel to them. Along the lines of Herbman VIP and Sensi Dub. I've got the likes of Disrupt, and I know Coki has a bit of a reggae influence, but who else?

Cheers

Hahaha, just posted basically the same thread!

Mungo's Hifi are essential- heavy dub sounds which are the perfect crosover between dub and dubstep.

Also the 'Box of Dub' series have got big releases from the likes of Skream, Digital Mystiks and Kode9, but all in a rub-a-dub style!!!

gotta bigup the liondub international and dutty artz labels from the states, both consistently excellent. jahdan blakkamoore is tearin all mics up lately, check their xlr8r podcast.

noah d as mentioned also kills it.

there's been a bunch of reworkings of major lazers tune "hold the line" with mr. lexx on mic, kozee did one: http://dubstepped.net/index.php/2009/04 ... zee-remix/ and so did danny scrilla: http://www.mashupcrew.org/blog/2009/04/ ... tep-remix/

HD4000 just released a refix of black uhuru - guess who's coming to dinner, check it here: http://dubstepped.net/index.php/2009/04 ... guess-who/

kush arora just released a new album which is mostly dancehall but has some dubstepwise bits also: http://dubstepped.net/index.php/2009/04 ... hronicles/ and juakali just put one out: http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=78954

random list of other people: 12th planet, emu, kulture, some of synkro's work, pinch, the bug, look out for warrior queen the mc, sure there's more also.

i really like this too; someone mentioned disrupt before - jahtari do loads of good dubby tunes, B2 on JTR002 is sweet!

Also that herbalist remix here is cool... matty g's got a few dubby tunes I think, silver and gold's a guddun. Zomby's done a couple as well, look for spliff dub and liquid dancehall
