takin it to switzerland

Post by swissbass » Sat Oct 14, 2006 3:16 pm

hi everyone, mostly the 2 swiss guys posting earlier on
i'm from bern, the tiny capital, and as far as i know there's not much going on there either, no shops at all, i think there was a plastician gig a few weeks back at a club called isc and youngsta told me he had 2 gigs (zuerich & thun i think) supporting blade.
i'm actually in london (se4) at the moment, but gonna be back in switzerland in november and definitely plan to push the sound over there as good as i can. maybe gonna work together with some open minded dnb heads for a start, but also try to get some small dubstep only party going, maybe a radio show, let's see...
anyway, if any of you other swiss souljahs wanna get in touch, just pm me or email to contact@nursound.net

Copenhagen is starting to get the hang of it, thanks to Ohoi! and Even... alot of the local technojocks are really opening their ears to it and buying the records. Yesterday i played a really mixed set (hiphop, r'n'b, soul, jungle, rock, etc.) at a local bar and got asked to play "midnight request line" by one of my friends who' s a hiphop and minimal techno dj... when I played it and some other stuff (Obeah, D1, Neverland, etc.) I noticed how several people were really getting into it and some of them came up asking for track names, etc... Good stuff!

...oh yeah, btw...

Same thing here (Gothenburg, Sweden). No scene to talk about, but everytime I spin dubstep at our club I get good feedback...
Small steps I guess..

I don't get all this "boring dubstep" stuff, either.

What used to REALLY annoy me back in the day was all thse glowstick trance/hard house people telling me that garage can't be "uplifting" like trance is, and it was all about "dark/badboy" sounds and violence. Obviously they hadn't heard tracks like "Sincere" and "Celebrate Life", and oddly enough, I've seen more violence at techno squat parties than I ever did at any garage rave!

I think most of the people who say it prefer faster, harder music... like hard house or something. Personally I think that a night of identical beats at 150-160 bpm, where you know exactly where the next drop/breakdown is going to come in, same old drum rolls with the same old synth stabs is boring.

But that's obviously just me! lol :)

East Lansing, MI. there is basically no scene in general of anything here...some hip hop and minimal/techno stuff in Lansing...

but somehow we have a store down the street that stocks a good chunk of dubstep.

i'm pretty sure i'm the only one who buys any of it, cuz every week whatever i don't buy is still there in the same order.

I havent heard of anything going on in Detroit, but i've been meaning to get down to chi-town

Not really a scene, down here in Devon, but a few people are starting to rinse some at partys and One Eye gets a set at Irie Bingo(Jungle Night)

Here In Boston we don't have much going on but, Twisted Village stocks some records I usually leave about $100 poorer each visit. We have Forced Exposure in Malden. Geoff White (Soul Champion) is right down the street from me. Some nights that are Dubstep friendly, Bassline in Dover, New Hampshire. Beat Research has had Scuba, Vex'd and the Plastician. DJ C has been dropping it. Plus NY is just a few hours away. Not too bad in the Northeast Stateside.

Already saw NY/Northeast USA mentioned already.....thats my neck of things....like they said....not a whole lot going on yet....but the potential is there with people like the Dub War crew setting it off.....little things here and there....BBS is stocking records.....little by little people are starting to catch hold of the sound....and apparently Baltimore is holding it down....

Been interesting talking to people as of late.....still getting calls from promoters to spin DNB at events.....when I tell them Im taking a breather from the DNB and focusing on the Dubstep almost all of them had no idea what that was......been linking em all to barefiles steady though....hopefully have some Dubstep filtering through some events this next year.....cant wait to spin my first set.....

Athens represent!

Not much people innit as everywhere i guess, but those into dnb scene seem to dig it.except that no record stores have dubstep, except you are lucky to get the most commercial release of all in cd format heh.
Im spinning dubstep when i have sets to give(mainly playing chill/downtempo/ambient/dub&electronica) and trying to spread the word.A friend of me is about to release a 12" from lycaon producions on his label.we trying to push on with dubstep in the parties here.its mainly electronica, breaks and electro, but dubstep is on lately :)
Si begg was in athens last month, played in a free party.Lycaon productions is playing on the 30th as well. Its about time to become massive i reckon and will be in near future.
stay tuned !

Basically there's only three people, Blaise in Shanghai, DJ Joe in Chengdu, and myself in Nanjing, playing dubstep in China. We only had our first event with a pro headliner (Kode 9) at the beginning of this month. Everything is still really fresh here. There's no record shops, magazines or radio stations or anything, just three guys playing dubstep every now and then.
