get the newer black version of the 1000.
they are way better. there is no reason whatsoever to get an MPC2000 over the 1000.

There are a few:
8 Outs
Better (Concentric) Jog Wheel
Less memory
The joys using zip disks and having them stop working
Use of more desk space
That being said, I have a 2000 and love it. Hated the XL. Was tempted by the 1000 for use of flashcards and hooking up to a CPU, but went with Ableton instead.

I had a mpc xl and built in a card reader, why don't you built one into the 2000 then? It will cost you like 15 bucks and it's real easy to connect
