If anyone knows of any vinyl being distributed without the authors permission

please reply with a link.

I'll go first with the obvious new batch of "Skream - In for the kill" vinyl that Skream has quoted as "not legit".

(I realise there is another thread for the Skream bootlegs but they still needed to be mentioned.)

I saw Smut's "Badman" was on Chemical as a shitty bootleg.

But they called it "Badnam Place." And made the other track "Smuck" as a kicker.

Are you sure this is Bootleg!?
I know there was a release of this just last week and i got a copy from Redeye and it's all good.
Could just be a mistype, didn't think chemical did dodgy stuff.

I would be very careful about using the word illegal and linking it to a specific retailer, you could run the risk of having yer arse sued for defamation.

Sorry but it's just i know how the law works and this kind of legal minefield is a solicitors wet dream.

Not to mention getting the whole forum into a lot of hot water, i would please ask you to consider contacting a forum moderator before you go ahead on this, if they say it's fine no then problem.

Far better to suggest that bootleg copies are being sold unknowingly by a particular shop, least that way, if they were unaware the copies they had were suspect, it gives them a chance to do something about it.

Of course if they're knowingly selling the bootlegs, they may see the feedback and decide in the interests of good publicity to stop!

Load Media did "Badman" without my permission and put some SHITE on the flip...they're trying to say it was some cock up with the wrong cd sent to master or some wank...I'm not going for it though, everytime I try and speak to the main geezer he's in a meeting but will call back...it's been a month now.

Heard they pressed up 500...please boycott it and just download it for free here (this is the most recent version...the one that was bootlegged is like 1.0!)

I fully understand that this thread is about illegal pressings of vinyl, but from the shops point of view this can be compared to selling a whitelabel that rely heavily on a sampling of some classic tune... which I don't see many dsf users point their fingers at.

of course the people behind these pressings should stop this (or instead ask for permission to press up a small amount of a certain tune), but I hardly believe that it is the shops themselves that does kind of stuff.
and as long as it is 500 copies or so, sold for 5-6 quid (if they can sell them all), it is not big bucks that is made.

you've got a good point i think.

the skream one is a bit more odd, so i'm guessing the remix was for a major, it was a big radio hit so the major would probably have made its money back that way, skream presumably got paid and the artist got alot of publicity thru her association with skream. The label gave the mp3 away so djs up and down the planet are playing it too, and it's a current record you can get it easily.

I imagine these bootleggers pressed up maybe 500 copies, probably make a couple of hundred off it, not bad a bit naughty but there you are, the major probably doesn't care, it hasn't bothered to fill that market with its own product.

But what about the jamaican guys whos tracks are sampled, accapellaed up, the unnamed singers who probably aren't even aware that someone is sampling or accapellaing their track to use on their own production, it kinda smacks of double standards and makes me question why those things are used in the first place, maybe it would be good to get some better practices of reference and possibly even payment on tracks that make money?
