Getting Dubplates Cut?

Post by JimmaJamJamie » Tue May 12, 2009 12:01 am

I was basically wondering if you could get dubplates cut from a 320 because Skream gave out Love Don't Come Easily & Township Funk Remix and i want them on wax rather than MP3.

Is this illegal as they are not my tunes (i wouldn't say they were mine obviously)?

And would they sound shit as it would be mastered from a 320?

Thanks.

Always seek permission from the original artist, in this case, Skream.

On the other hand, I would say go and do it. Anything to support your local community and putting money into things you love and keeping small businesses alive.

Overall Vinyl is much better and homely than a cold, crusty mp3 that anyone can download. Can't download a dubplate now can you...

Skream gave them out for you to play on DSF, so does it really matter what medium they are being played off (i.e. Laptop, CD or Dubplate?)...

yo,

this is a good idea (i should have thort of it) but your only prob is that even from a 320 your soundquality will not be as good as vinyl. ideally you want the WAV so u get the best sound, otherwise u are just gunna have a 320 pressed to vinyl. which is fine but u payin £50 for a dubplate which will sound almost the same as your cd.

big up

I think it would be courteous to ask, i know you've got the song regardless, but you know, i would like someone to ask me if they were gonna cut one of my songs.
With regards to getting a 320 cut i don't know if it would be worth it to be honest. I'd ask for a .wav ;)

Cutting from 320 wouldn't get you as good as a result as from an unlimited WAV file, but it probably wouldn't be too bad. I know of loads of labels that have cut from MP3 cos they lost the WAV's and never told the artists!

its not so much about whether or not he would care, just that it would be polite to ask him first

Yeah thats what i was thinking as MP3's cut certain frequencies whereas .wav keeps them all or something like that i think. I will ask him but i am not gonna get my hopes up ha.

If these seems stupid to some of you, sorry but vinyl is my favourite format and i want the songs so i can play them out. Sorry for wanting to support my scene and what you think is wasting MY own money ha.

I know it'd be nice to have a vinyl dub of tune when one isn't available, but I thought in these days of Serato and almost every club having CDJs you wouldn't need to cut a vinyl...

Its not cheap!

Yeah but like you said it would be sick having a Dubplate and i don't want to get Serato or CD-J's, maybe in the future but for now i am sticking with the beauty that is Vinyl.

I haven't really got any important things to pay for as i live with my parents and just have a part-time job and go to college so might aswell use my income to get sick things while i still can haha.

I know what you mean, having an exclusive copy of a tune on vinyl is the best! :D

I still haven't bothered buying Serato yet (although it pains me) and still mix with vinyl, except when I play my own tunes out.

I remember inquiring years ago about getting a tune pressed to vinyl and it was outta the question, dunno how much it'd be now... :(
