Famous CDR Club Music Night Comes to Derby QUAD
CDR music night comes back to Derby seeking digital music makers of all styles, acoustic, electronic, fusion, hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, folktronica or the downright unclassifiable

QUAD, Derby’s new centre for art and film is playing host to CDR Derby – a free and celebrated club music night for digital music makers, DJs and music producers on Thursday 28th May from 9.00pm-12.00am.

On the night, people can turn up and hand over CDs of their own tracks to get their music played live and loud to an audience of like-minded music makers and music industry peers.

A night of ideas and tracks in the making, CDR Derby will also feature DJ sets from local Derby-based music producers on rotation, including Supalouisa, Glitch n Groove, Christo and Alex G – who has played alongside some of the biggest names in breakbeat and drum ‘n’ bass such as Stanton Warriors, Prodigy and Orbital.

CDR Derby is one of a series of club music nights and creative seminars taking place in the East Midlands as part of CDR East Midlands, a two-year project, supported by Arts Council England.

Bringing together a new community of digital music makers to network and collaborate across the region, CDR nights are taking place in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham throughout 2009. The nights are based on burntprogress’s hugely successful CDR night at London’s Plastic People – twice nominated ‘Best Club’ on Radio 1’s Worldwide Awards – as well as other cities across the UK and abroad.

More CDR Derby nights will follow this year at QUAD on 18th June, 17th September and 19th November as well as CDR nights in Nottingham and Leicester. For more information, contact cdrw@burntprogress.com or check http://www.myspace.com/burntprogress / http://www.burntprogress.com

About burntprogress and CDR
burntprogress is the name of the creative agency set up by Tony Nwachukwu, music producer, DJ and music technology educator. A former member of the band Attica Blues, Tony has worked with the likes of Macy Gray, UNKLE and Ben Folds. Co-director Gavin Alexander is an award-winning film and TV producer, who has made short films and arts documentaries. He is also a DJ and self described all-round culture junkie.

CDR provides a platform for electronically savvy music producers, artists and music fans to hear and share new ideas, beats, mash-ups and remixes with like-minded people in a venue with a great sound system. It was created out of a need to develop a music movement operating outside conventional structures, by sharing experiences, demystifying technology and broadening horizons beyond playlists, genres and charts.

Alex G (Alex Gibbons)
DJ Alex G has been billed alongside some of the biggest names in breakbeat and drum ‘n’ bass, including Stanton Warriors, Prodigy, Orbital, DJ Die, ShyFx, Transit Mafia and, more recently, General Midi, James Zabelia and JFK.

A prolific collector and restorer of electronic instruments, Alex has turned his skills successfully to production. Over time Alex has amassed a diverse sonic palette, and an encyclopedic knowledge of varied sound manipulation and recording techniques. Now focusing on breakbeat and drum ‘n’ bass production, Alex continues to deliver new forms of rhythm, and addictive and enticing sounds with every track. He also works as a Lecturer in Multimedia Technology and Music Production at the University of Derby.

Glitch n Groove
Glitch n Groove are a pair of music producers bringing elements of old school jungle, drum ‘n’ bass and breaks. Following the success of local nights, they are close to the release of their first collective E.P: PowerPack. Glitch and Groove comprise of Simon Tew (Glitch) and Alex Khan (Groove Distortion). Both have years of experience in music production, DJing and live performance. Groove Distortion has also written library music for television including work for the BBC, and Glitch is also an accomplished writer and sound designer for computer games and film.

Supalouisa
Supalouisa has been playing music since the age of about five and composes, programmes, plays, mixes and producers her own tracks. Based in Derby, Supalouisa’s Strange Symphony track recently gained airplay on Urban Landscapes Radio – a well-respected showcase for independent club music.

Christo
Christo has been honing his musical and production talent, experimenting with sounds and styles for many years.

He slowly started to release tracks through My Space (www.myspace.com/christophar1), gathering the support of many respected DJ's, including Matthias Desch (Bogaloo Radio), Tony Nwachukwu and Gavin Alexander who have championed Christo through their CDR nights.

Christo has also collaborated with George Booth to establish The Media Kiosk www.themediakiosk.co.uk, a company dedicated to providing audio, sound design production/remix work and voiceovers. They have recently signed a publishing deal in America with Original Source music – providers of music to the TV and film industry, including TV stations FOX, NBC, Disney and CBN.
