I heard rumour that he filled a newsroom with helium so that reports of a massive coach crash had to be done in very high voices. This I found to be the height of entertainment.

Sadly not true.

I don't think its a perm - he's got curly hair. There is a difference. Think too much of that Aniston bint has condemned the ultra-wavy's to hair-straightener hell - fascists.

any truth to the rumour he wrote his producers name followed by "is a tnuc" over one of the frames in brass eye with a neon marker. Think it was the paedo edition because the producer had said they weren't allowed to broadcast it but obviously did..

It was Michael Grade, head of Channel 4. He didn't get employed by them again until Grade left (quite a few years).

oh yeah, the interviews with Peter Cook, "Why Bother" are pretty hilarious, too.
one little joke about how Cook was approaching death, which had me in fits.
really brilliant pairing, shame they didn't do more together.
what a shame, oh well.

Not Nathan Barley. Although, even though it was way out of date and missed by the boat by a couple of centuries, there are still people in Hoxton who are like that.

I heard that it was when he was working for Norwich Radio (hence the Alan Partridge connection), he tried to fill the newsroom with helium while they were reporting the death of Princess Di. He got caught, and got fired.

I also heard that he got fired from another radio station for shouting "CHRIST'S FAT COCK" at Cliff Richard, live on air. I really hope this one is true as well.

Oh, and pk - I'm glad someone else hated Barley as well. What a crock of crap.

Think Barley might be a bit passe in the smoke, but still seem to be a lot of too old twats, riding bmx's and sporting ridiculous haircuts down this way.

Think it had it's moments but not peak Morris by any stretch

i personally thought nathan barley was phenomenal. i thought it was a rinse on a lot more than people from hoxton.

just thought i'd add that chris morris did all the music for nathan barley himself also. and if u get the dvd edition there's a very jokes take on banksy...

I didnt get Barley when it was on TV... but I watched it again last year and it had me cackling like a hag. I reckon its more funny if you watch the entire series in one go.

barley is a real grower. i dint like it that much when i saw it on tv but i sat down and watched all of them in a row on the dvd and loved it. too funny when chap jumps out of the window. im laughing just thinking of the look on his face.

morris is a genius .

Barley was good, in the sense that it was a devistatingly accurate portrayal of a certain London niche (post-modern journo-wank).

Sadly, the main audience of the show *may* have been the very people he was mocking... No-one else really recognised the satire.
