Jesu was great they needed to play all night for reals. They did like 4 songs but you know they are so long. Totally worth it.

ooooh, ouch. thats giving mbv a bit more credit than they deserve, imho. jkbroderick does something with that sound that only he could do, thusly making it truly his own.

Surely saying 'that sound' implies that the sound belongs to, or at least originates from mbv? It's obviously different, he does make the sound his, but the influence is clearly there. Not to say that Jesu aran't good, but it's quite clear! And mbv are sick! :D

I agree here.MBV deserves a lot more credit actually.MBV was was extremely influential on pretty much every postrock, shoegaze, and alt-rock act that followed. They clearly had thier influences(Cocteau Twins,Sonic Youth,Dinosaur Jr,Pixies,Mission Of Burma,The Jesus And Mary Chain),but it was so different at the same time and Kevin Shields made it a sound that has been copied/influenced by every indie/alternative/noisepop guitarist since '88,including Justin Broderick.Jesu is a great band, not as good as Godflesh or Swans(two very original and influential bands),but they aren't doing anything drasitcally different than, say,Yume Bitsu,Mogwai,Sunny Day Real Estate,Lilys,Swervedriver,Whorl,or Sigur Ros,who were all influenced heavily(and shamelessly)by MBV,and were doing it years ago.Especially by "Loveless".

Would love to see Jesu live though.Sounds like a great show!

And yes...MBV are sick!

mbv is great, dont get me wrong.
so are all the other names mentioned.
and the influence of mbv on them all is evident.

but jesu. come on. they are unique within that sound/scene, imho. something truly their own.

I can see your point on that.I think that the Godflesh("Love And Hate In Dub" is a classic!!) and Swans backgrounds can be heard just as equally as the MBV influence, which gives it a certain uniqueness, considering that two main members come from those two bands. If only they came out like...maybe 10-12 years ago,or even earlier,I think I'd be really floored by them.

By the way...Ted Parsons emailed me through myspaz a few months back, telling me he liked my dubs and requested an add!I was like :o :o!!!

yeah, swans are great too. thing i really dig about jesus stuff is how heavy it is, while still being dreamy/shoegazey or whatever. its a hard task to pull both well, like jesu does.

nice one on th myspace bit. 8)

Agree 100%.Most shoegaze/postrock bands end up sounding poppy no matter how heavy they are!

Thought it was time to resurrect (no pun intended) this thread due to new Jesu EP & LP dropping soon along with a load more JK Broadrick material etc.

Before I paste new info on these releases though................Godflesh & Jesu own MBV (imho of course although I am biased!). MBV are a great band............but they're sure as hell no JK Flesh. It's like comparing Black Sabbath with Swans............they're two completely different animals.

The other thing that puzzles me is people always raving about "Songs Of Love & Hate In Dub"? Sure it's a great album but it's daddy "Songs Of Love & Hate" absolutely crushes it!

Now for the new stuff......the project I'm REALLY looking forward to is this..............METHOD OF DEFIANCE - JKB - Guitars (Project with Bill Laswell, Wata (Boris), Submerged, Dr Israel, Enduser)....... This sounds amazing! I've always wanted JK to do something with Laswell. Now if he does something with Amon Tobin and Sly & Robbie I'll be happy!

Avalanche Recs. two new digital download only releases :

WHITE STATIC DEMON - 'Decayed' (AREC016)

White Static Demon is a new Justin K Broadrick project for which he has been working on recordings for over one year. Again, like Council Estate Electronics, White Static Demon was inspired by Justin collecting and compiling material from Final cassette releases on his Post Mortem Rekordings label circa 1984-87, specifically the early uncompromising brutal power electronics driven Final, unlike Council Estate Electronics which was inspired by the more open ended Throbbing Gristle / Tangerine Dream ('Phaedra' most notably) inspired Final of old. JKB, excited again by this eighties power electronics sound and what inspired Final to take this direction initially in 1984/85, namely Ramleh / Broken Flag, Whitehouse / Come Org, Consumer Electronics / Iphar and M.B (Maurizio Bianchi) set about revitalising and revisiting this hateful / black / power electronics sound, utilizing analogue electronics and voice only, coupled with a now more mature, textured and psychedelic approach to the production of such material, JKB throughout 2008 and now 2009 has been recording sessions for this new and what will become a prolific project. Presented here is the first album, available in the digital format only, like Council Estate Electronics, there are many releases forthcoming on both vinyl and CDr across many labels. 'Decayed' has three tracks running with a total time of 54 Minute approx. Short mid quality MP3 extracts are downloadable at the Avalanche Store

SOLARIS BC - 'Submerged Technology' (AREC015)

Solaris BC was yet another short lived Justin K Broadrick project, designed to be released on his also short lived label Lo Fibre circa 1995-96. Lo Fibre released four 12" EP's throughout this period, the label was intended to be an outlet for JKB and related to release minimal / lo fi techno. Around this same period JKB and Kevin Martin (The Bug / Techno-Animal / etc) also worked the minimal / maximal techno project The Sidewinder for Mille Plateaux/Force Inc and Virgin, this culminated in two releases, the album 'Colonized' which was released on the aforementioned labels and the 12" Vinyl only EP 'Implant' for the Lo Fibre label, The Sidewinder and Solaris BC projects ran parallel to each other around this period, and both recorded albums - 'Colonized' saw a release whilst the Solaris BC album presented here for the first time waited for release on Sentrax whilst the label re-assessed its distribution, unfortunately Sentrax then folded and JKB shelved the Solaris BC album indefinitely until now. 'Submerged Technology' is the full album as it was intended for release in 1996, remastered by JKB in late 2008. Eight tracks in 55 Minutes approx. of completely unreleased material.Short mid quality MP3 extracts are downloadable at the Avalanche Store

Just realised this is in the Dubstep section? I take it there was only a Dubstep section back in 07?

For me "Ruined" is Jesu's most devastatingly brutal work. DEVASTATING!!!

I also saw Jesu supporting Isis a few years back in Bristol UK, one of the best gigs I've ever been to, truly awesome.

Seen Isis again since :D and Justin Broadrick too :| but that gig will always be up there.

I like jesu better with Ted Parsons than the whole M83 Drum Programming sound.

Still, glad to see JK has EVEN MORE up his sleeve. Interestingly, I checked out that group Salem, and I wished they met up with Broadrick.
