awesome mix alright...

...hardly revolutionary or groundbreaking though. stunning production values but just seems like more jaded drum n bass heads cloning the halfstep years after the sound had been defined and by doing so, further painting dubstep into a corner as loefah himself did

its like halfstep is the 'amen break' of dubstep and wobble is the 'reece'. you can understate it as much as you like but sooner or later it comes thru or its not dubstep ? i'd much rather hear them give garage/2 step inspired dubstep a go or yeah you guessed it, breakstep :D

I disagree. Halfstep has so many variations that it cannot be compared to the amen.

I also dont think dubstep is being painted into a corner by more dark
halfstep, there is nowhere near enough of it around, its a style of dubstep that has somewhat wained in the past couple of years. Its like saying jungle as a style of dnb has had its day and been defined and theres no place for it now, when clearly there is.

Dubstep is being painted into a corner alot more by the constant mid-range wobble and aggyness that seems to be dominating the dance at the moment, with dubstep following dnb down the "my drops bigger than your drop" mentality.

I dont think kryptic minds are cloning anything either, there style is very unique, the way they uses hats and snares and the sounds that they use are incredible. That said, i agree its not revolutionary as such, but it is the revitalisation of a sound that was beginning to get lost.

halfstep is formulaic...

...download the template, fill in the gaps, add a signature wobble, lush pads/strings and trick it out with some spacey pseudo spiritual vocals then continue calling yourselves kryptic minds...

aint nuthin kryptic about it nor was that sound getting lost just losing its way in a cloud of mediocre wobbleclones but fuck me if them jaded d'n'b heads do know how to tweak it to ultimate phatness...

...gimme boxcutter anyday tho!!!

Great interview, one of the best I've had the pleasure to read this year.

clearly not!

i've been playing the mix alot over the weekend, and i think its great! the interview has stuck in my head. its all positive, its just seem's that some people on here *cough*beatlejuice who don't like things to be positive they just want drama which is a shame to all involved who are are putting the work in... maybe he was unloved as a child. kryptic minds are free to make what ever music, just because they have made dnb dosen't mean they can't make any other style...

keep things positive!

Awesome read, the white text on Black background clatter my eyes though, can see double now ;)

Nice tunes on the mix as well, just listened to it half asleep in bed and some amazing moments had my brain twitching, did i hear Diana Ross samples at one point?

This Kryptic minds stuff is seriously the best produced music i have heard on every level since Ed Rush and Optical put out the Creeps album. Massive respect to them and Loefah. And Mr Blackdown for the nnicenes once more.

...i love the consistency and sound they've appropriated but if dubstep and halfstep was the furniture then kryptic minds is the polish

spot on. there sound is unique and its of such a high production quality, it does stand out.

so what if there doing dark halfstep? so what if there doing stuff in a similar style to what loefah did? maybe its cos that is the style they like, and they have all right too. dark halfstep and the stuff loefah made is one of the best styles. i love it, its my favourite and to me that IS "dub-step"; definitively.

yeah but hating on scene jumpers then supporting kryptic minds who are doing the same thing except instead of copying caspa/rusko they are based on him is hypocritical yes?

he is just tryna be excesively critical. saying that they havent been very creative and just taken an already exsisting idea and not done much work.

Only read half the interview so far, very interesting stuff though big up Martin. It's great to read all this stuff Loefah has to say about giving up weed, DNB top-boy DJs jumping on dubstep, Coki's ''fuck these guys, they're writing my beats for me'' comment, Disco Wrekkah being untruthful (would be interesting to know if he sees 'Jah War RMX' in a similar way, wouldn't you see that tune as quite similar in stylistic terms?) etc etc.

I'm going to download this mix, KMindz still haven't clicked for me yet. I can see where beatlejuice is coming from in a way - their music is very well produced and so on but it isn't particularly exciting. But then, music doesn't have to be exciting/innovative, does it? Interesting also how KMinds are at the peripherary of dubstep and don't know that much about it, someone like me who knows those old 2005/6 tunes and got into dubstep because of those tunes probably isn't able to listen to dark half-step without instantly comparing it to Loefah and co. But as Blackdown says, there's people getting into dubstep nowdays who don't neccessarily know about that style of dubstep and maybe K Minds will be their entry point to that?

I hope Loefah's new stuff still has that 'wow' factor, though.

So what you're actually saying is that you want them to make music that you like as opposed to what they like
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.
