dubstep has gotten better, if anything.
People speaking about 4 years ago like it was "back in the day" is quite entertaining. - Like the dinosaurs roamed the earth in 2005.
I remember when these same arguements were had by fans of Acid House (why is everyone with a tb303 now a credible producer??), then Drum and Bass went down this road as well. (...was sooo much better before timestretch vocals were in EVERY track omg!!!)
15 years from now all this will get lumped into the same era, and new heads will not be able to distinguish the time before the "midrange cack" hit the scene, ruined it for everyone, and now you've moved on to this evil speed carnival step all the kids are listening to. (sorry, had to throw that one in there heh)

I understand music changes, 2005 will always be my totez favez tho, and I will always enjoy blathering on to little kids about how everything they believe in is a heap of Tweeny toss filth. It's the circle of life, except when I'm blathering on to people who are decades older than me about exactly the same thing, in which case it becomes the hexagon of living death.
Production levels... Fair enough if you're into that, personally I think I preferred the rawer stuff. But it's not as if funky doesn't exist lol

in 4/5 years peeps are gonna be going on about how "2008 was the year dubstep became a global phenomenon. without that year dubstep wouldnt be where it is today"
then DSF becomes self aware and launches a global thermo-nuclear attack and the vinyl pressing plants go into overdrive. churning out hunter-killer vinyls destined to infiltrate raves and ........
sorry. terminators out soon innit!!!
which leads me to my next point. please lets not have a 12berjillion and one terminator inspired tracks in the coming weeks and months. its far to bait!!!!

i think if you dont totally love a minimum of 20 new tracks each month of 2009, digi and vinyl, you fell out of genre´s evolution rocket and you`ll die sad but maybe not lonely orbiting around your memories
also if you can´t hear the overall evolution in sound quality, then you can´t hear imo.
of course there´s more crap too, the proportions stay approx. the same, but since whole pool is much larger, the cool tracks pool is also much larger, thats the only win you can expect and more than enough to make reasonable people happy.
so you can´t complain unless you are easily confused when seeking for quality among 200 releases instead of 20

yeah you tell him. how long you have been a member of this forum is a really good measure of how credible your arguement is.djfurness wrote:Comin from someone who joined up last monthQ23 wrote:People speaking about 4 years ago like it was "back in the day" is quite entertaining. - Like the dinosaurs roamed the earth in 2005.

jokes aside dubstep has definately changed for the better. anyone else think nine samurai is shit?
If by "joined up" you mean "finally created an account for a forum I have been browsing for a few years, then yeah, I just joined up.
I used to watch phat pants wearing, stuffed animal back pack having, pacifier sucking, vics vapo rub stankin kids have these same music based debates in a chill out room at big parties, regarding their sub sub sub sub genre of music they preferred. Its just funny its on the www now.
I do believe dubstep is better due to being more diverse, and not just conforming to what 10 people think the genre should be.

edit: Oh and I spose I may aswell join in. For me dubstep was alooot more exciting a few years ago, but I think it was more due to the novelty of it for me and not necessarily quality of tunes. Theres SICK stuff constantly coming out (if you dont think theres enough quality tunes coming out at the moment, youve got a bigger vinyl budget than me
Alot of people I know who we all started getting into dubstep at the same time have all started to kind of move away from it. Im beginning to find myself doing the same too, but yeah, I think its more to do with...I dunno...human attention spans or something than it is quality of tunes!
That said, would someone please test the early dmz releases?

Guys entitled to his views just as much as anyone, being a forum member longer is definitley not a sign of superiority, just thought someone who has been a member a month going on about 4 years ago not being a long time was funny. 4 years is a long time, especially in these Internet times we live in, the speed at which Dubstep has evolved is scary sometimes, IN MY OPINION its taken Dubstep 4/5 years to get to a level of popularity (especially worldwide) it took Drum n Bass 10 years to get to, and its mainly down to the net.caunter wrote:yeah you tell him. how long you have been a member of this forum is a really good measure of how credible your arguement is.djfurness wrote:Comin from someone who joined up last monthQ23 wrote:People speaking about 4 years ago like it was "back in the day" is quite entertaining. - Like the dinosaurs roamed the earth in 2005.

I didnt say there werent as many good tunes now as well, as I pointed out because im not swayed and stick to one side of the music (wobble/deep etc) like a lot of people on this forum seem to be I can find lots to enjoy whether its an aggressive Coki bit or a lush as fuck Ramadanman piece, I was merely pointing out that those tunes back in 04/05/06 were better because they were new, fresh, exciting, it was indeed a golden era, and the influx of all the new producers we have seen in the past couple of years and the ever growing popularity of the music is down to those seminal exciting moments that we had back then that drew people into the music, so for people to be moaning about people who appreciate that period more than them is ridiculous, I will always find tunes that will excite me, but never as much as back in those days, its like saying DnB/Jungle can still be as exciting as when Splash - Babylon etc were about, you can never replicate that shit, but the music evolves and Drum n Bass/Jungle still continues to have great new moments just like Dubstep will continue to, but nothin can match the early days, you can pretty much apply this to any genre really
