is your landlady holding the deposit themselves? legally they're supposed to stick it in some governement coffer for the duration of the tenancy, so it gets released to you properly.... i'm pretty sure that's the law now...
of course, bear in mind that then you do run the risk that some MP nabs said deposit to claim for a shinier gold door knob for his 15th home in kent, that his second cousin twice removed lives in.

can see why you're so pissed off. thing is they could really take their time returning your deposit and find / make excuses to keep hold of some of it.
if you've got the nerve take to walking about the house naked. if the landlady turns up, give her the full monty
