I know I'm late to the party on this one, but one year on and producers are still rinsing the Brutal Electro preset more than ever. This is getting truly ridiculous now. Just taken a listen to the Top 10 dubstep tracks on Beatport - at least 5 of them use it with barely a tweak, and mostly on every track of the release. Witness:
https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/con ... lank_mixes
https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/con ... %20Remixes
https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/con ... ter%20Mash
https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/con ... Em%20%20EP
Oh and it's also in the Top 10 electro house chart eg.
https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/con ... %20Remixes
And about 3 times in the Top 10 breaks chart eg.
https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/con ... Dead%20End
Obviously still selling well, but for Christ's sake I wish people would give it a rest.

I'd say that about 40% of the dubstep that comes through here uses this preset.

So you don't listen to the majority of dubs that come through here? Cool good to knowMacc wrote:I'd say that about 40% of the dubstep that comes through here uses this preset.

ahhh
so THATS what brutal electro patch is!!!!
for the record that is the worst sounding bassline on a big system... it is really painful on your ears when you hear it on a function 1 or similar....
i think alot of producers need to take note of this and filter it down - it sounds crap otherwise!

lol, I thought I was the only person who had that issue. I'm sure Massive experts execute it nicely, and I still try and achieve mad sub with it, but generally I don't use it for sub at all. It's still worth the $, but I like Alchemy a lot. The importing audio into the oscillators is brilliant imo.Rhek wrote:I love 16 bit but.... Surely SURELY!?
Im well not gettin on with massive atm, its so fahkin midrange. All the bass freqs seems to be about 200hz man.

By "here", I'm almost certain Macc means his Mastering business, not the Dubstepforum Production Board.Lojik wrote:So you don't listen to the majority of dubs that come through here? Cool good to knowMacc wrote:I'd say that about 40% of the dubstep that comes through here uses this preset.

I think more names need to be mentioned.Wachs Lyrical wrote:Well I know we arent naming names but......
The biggest culprits are C&S. Every single one of their dubstep tracks is made up of 100% brutal electro.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

For anyone still curious, you can hear the sound in the preset player top right of this page: http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=massive (it's number 27).
And a few more examples most will already be familiar with:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPzuI2qViZg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvHsQtTjJZw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlEyR27fvGc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzRaYFCZpPo
I almost feel like cut and pasting a load of samples of these tracks together and sticking it on YouTube to show how homogenous all this stuff is...
