Massive should cash in here. Patent that sound, create a label called 'Brutal Electro' and get all these artists in. If they want to play out one of their brutal wobblers they've got to play at a Massive night. Then all the other dubstep nights are free to roam all the other sounds.

Actually to be fair that Rusko track might be Albino 3, not Massive. He gets a similar sound out of it in this tutorial vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eLFb6CecXA

And a few more examples most will already be familiar with:

I almost feel like cut and pasting a load of samples of these tracks together and sticking it on YouTube to show how homogenous all this stuff is... :|
only the skream and chase and status tunes use brutal electro

Fair play on that - Rusko's off the hook  - but I still think that Coki tune is an offender.

I always thought Spongebob was done in Reason?:(
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Yeah, dunno about spongebob... I can sorta hear the modulation a little bit, but not to much extent... I would say that we let him off the hook since he's tweaked it beyond recognition.

Since i've been on the "resampling trip", i just can't use any synth preset anymore. I just have to make my own now.. all the time. I never was a out of the box preset user though. I selected a sound i liked and totally twisted it up. But these days even that's not fullfilling anymore. I just HAVE to make all the sounds i use by myself 8)

The only presets i do use are the live instrument presets like guitars, strings, piano etc.

Not saying there's anything wrong with using a preset, but ATLEAST twist it up... I vote a big hell yesssss on NOT using the brutal patch (even though it's nice, see what you can come up with by putting in some work)

Heh :)

Know where you're coming from but after all this is a 'Production' sub-forum, so I think it's fair enough to pick apart other people's production techniques here. Might come across as snobby but personally I think it's healthy for the music scene if producers take pride in innovation and frown on people who lazily cane presets to the point of turning the whole scene into one homogenous lump.

I mean, imagine if you were a chef who took pride in your hand-crafted subtle recipes, and then you see everyone else is just using Uncle Bens and not only getting away with it, but being hailed as a genius cook. It would kind of make you want to give up or join the herd.

if a preset sounds good i'll use it
no sense in spending hours trying to recreate it to be elite or snobbish about it
the end result is all that matters anyways

for all the bitching he's doing he could spend that time stepping up his production skills which no offense need it from what i've heard on his myspace

OK, now I feel bad for starting this old topic up - no need for personal stuff to get into it. Sometimes just feels like seeing the "wizard behind the curtain" brings as much extra enjoyment to music as it takes away. Ignorance is bliss.

I don't agree. If a preset sounds good enough to use, that means ALOT more other people have and will use it. I create my own sounds because at the end it's mine and not made by someone else. I'm not REcreating, im CREating new sounds i like. And yes maybe someone else has already made it, in dutch we say BOEIE! (like fuck that)

Ow and not everybody on this forum only uses lfo and cutt off...

Please calm down a bit, count till ten and say GOOSFRABAAA!

if someone gets offended by a general blanket statement i make then generally it probably applies to them
my point being i'd much rather be composing than being anal about omg is that a preset or how to sound like someone else
hell look at chase and status they make some of the most generic shit out there imo and rape the brutal electro patch a ton and they just got picked up by mercury
people getting elitest in production makes me laugh half the time because when you go to check out the music the people criticizing and bitching the most are making they seem to have really generic and amateurish sounding stuff or they seem to have all the book knowledge or perfect answers to questions, but seem to not apply it or know how to in their personal productions

tl;dr check yourself before you wreck yourself
