go to SE asia, i went last year for 3 months, ended up staying an extra month and working in a bar in laos for food, alcohol and a hut. its easy to travel around mostly but if you want to you can get off the beaten track and take trains in cambodia and sit on the roof whilst the sun sets sharing a zoot with a load of cambodians. i gave a load of dubstep from my ipod to a shop in cambodia called boom boom room and went past a few days later and they were banging it out...spreading the love

that's pretty much my plan. Malaysia, up through Thaliand, Laos, then down Through Vietnam. You had any thoughts on what the weather will be like at that time of year? i cant seem to get my head round whether to expect blistering heat or tropical storms, or a bit of both!

I live in Bangkok and i've travelled all over South America, South East Asia and parts of China, NZ, Europe and the US.
Don't worry about political unstability or crime. The politics don't concern you and the crime is pretty much non existent compared to the violence soaked shit pit that is England. I wouldn't move back to blighty if you paid me.
My favourite places in the world are Bangkok and Buenos Aires.
Two amazing cities with fine food, beautiful people and 24 hour night life.
I would recommend choosing either south east Asia or South America. There is simply too much to see in a year to do both. If your on a budget don't bother with Australasia, Europe or the US.
You can easily travel around South East Asia for a year on £5000 -£6000 including your flight.

If you want to get over your fear of Spiders i suggest eating them in Cambodia. Taste surprisingly like fried Bacon. :D
I would choose Cambodia over Vietnam. Far more fun and the locals are alot more friendly. I would also consider Burma as well. A friend of mine went recently and had a great time. Don't worry about the Police, locals or border gaurds. The fucked up foreigners are far more dangerous. The only fights or trouble i have seen in Thailand are between drunk white people.

The type of weather changes pretty much at the border between Malaysia and Thailand. If I remember correctly, September time is probably one of the cooler parts of the year. Monsoon season starts in Malaysia round about December, and coincides with the dry season in some parts of Thailand. You don't want to be in the east coast of Malaysia or anywhere in Borneo when the monsoon hits, it's just gonna be pure wet.

If you can head out to Malaysia a month earlier, in August, you ought to get there just in time for turtle egg laying season. The beaches are on the east coast of the mainland.

I'll probably be heading to Malaysia for a couple weeks in early December.

hahaha thats jokes, yeh man ive been looking at cambodia for a while but to be fair i wouldnt class myself as a well travelled guy and i reckon i might struggle with the transport systems and shit like that, u know what i mean? But also before i wnt out to eastern europe i was like :o but like u say the only thing coming close to a problem was other brits, and it was much much more relaxed than london. so i dunno i might just chill

Also, sorry to go on about it, how common are huge spiders in SE asia? like do you havin comin out the wood works or just maybe see a few every now and again. I dunno if i could handle one of them bad boys in the shower!

I've been living in Thailand for a year and i can honestly say that i have never seen a Spider. In fact i don't recall seeing any in the rest of south east asia (apart from fried) I did see a right big fuck off Bird eating spider in Hong Kong though. The only place you will definately see spiders is in the jungle.

Don't worry about transport south east asia is set up to cream off the tourists. The easiest place you will ever travel.

I think spiders are more common in the UK than in SE asia, fuckers keep popping up everywhere! Hardly ever saw any growing up in Malaysia.
