Hey hey dude,

At the minute we are bi-monthly so we're pretty much booked up until the end of the year now, with our December line-up starting to take shape.

We're aways looking for local DJ's though, so we'll check you out in the next couple of days

Thanks man, Yeah I saw that event and saw you were part of the dubstep forums etc but I thought that the events you're doing have artists that are leagues above..

If you know any other promoters that are doing bristol events etc please pass my myspace on and check out the blog for the dnb and dubstep mixes.

That's what Bristol is all about though - you'll find leaders of genre's sharing bills with local DJ's and artists - it's such a vibrant city in terms of music and events you'll find yourself having to pick between 3-4 each Friday and Saturday - it's awesome!

On that note - we'll get you involved at some point - give us a shout when you make it to Bristol - or just come along on the nex event and see what we're about

Bristol's a good choice, DJ Seizure!

We've got a great music scene here, especially for dubstep.

The place to get find out what's going on is Rooted Records on Gloucester Road. Everything basically radiates out from there.

What I would say, on a practical note, is that in my experience you can't really put it into other peoples hands to make the effort to check you out.
Promoters are generally busy enough and have enough on their hands - so you'll probably have more success by being a bit more pro-active.

"Take the battle to them" for want of a better phrase. Send promoters emails with links to your mix, have cd's with you when you go to play out, or when you go to nights - then they don't have to make the effort to find out about you, they have what they need in front of them. And on that note, don't forget to include contact details.

Thanks all, I'll keep everyones advice in mind, I've started burning mixtapes and will be getting out an about with them as soon as..

After exams, during the summer I'm going to bop out to bristol for a weekend and try go to as many events as possible to hand out cds and promote basically in preperation for freshers to maybe get myself out there as soon as..

Just need the grades or all this is wasted and I'm off to nottingam instead...

I'm a student at UoB. Pretty decent uni (as long as you're on a course with decent contact hours, because loads have been dramatically cutting back).

There are quite a few student run nights.
The main dubstep event is shudder, run by DJ Laconic. That's had some pretty big names and is a pretty big gig (loads of non-students go).
Then there's Beans of Toast which is a dubstep/electro/dnb night held a Dojo's. Dojo's is quite a studenty kinda place, and Beans on Toast is pretty popular.
Then there's the slightly smaller 5th bass which is normally at the tube, run by Professor Messa and Boy C. They play all sorts of electro, breaks and Dnb.

Those are a few of the student-run nights for dubstep/dnb off the top of my head, so you should probably hunt out them first.

Good luck getting in mate, Bristol is a pretty awesome place to live, esp. having ridiculously good music [and lots of cider] on tap!

Thanks for the help, I just need to get on promoting and chasing up promoters to try get sets... To be honest, I'd do it for free, just to get my name around and people interested...

Now all I need is the grades....all this all goes downhill.

agreed

my advice is to do it yourself.... put on your own party, build up your own crowd, make yourself heard that way.

there's a million & one excellent dj's in briz all wanting gigs from promoters, it's very competitive. so doing it yourself is the best way imo & the most satisfying when you get somewhere with it.

So true, there are sooo many people djin and pushing dubstep. Where I live now it's going good,but there isn't much of a scene so it's easy to be the only one etc...Bristol I'll be just some nobody...But I think the first thing will be to go and contact some promoters and then if that fails...Do my own events...
