laptops

Post by dubstee » Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:04 am

I'm looking to buy a laptop (PC) to make beats on. Is it worth buying one of those Carillion ones (http://www.carillondirect.com) or will any one do a decent job? Any speicific recommendations?

Also - laptop soundcards?!

With music its about the storage space. I just got rid of a 1.3Ghz, 256M RAM computer that was pretty shoddy, but ran reason perfectly.

(but saying that, getting a duo processor is a good idea)

go for a core duo laptop. preferably core 2 duo.

try places like www.laptopsdirect.co.uk and see what bargains you can find.

this sony is a good deal for 800 quid for example:

OK, can someone explain laptop soundcards to me? E.g. would it be sufficient if I was to get that VAIO and this: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/F ... -main.html

that'd do. but im not that keen on m-audio soundcards.... ive always found them a bit ******.

a neater solution would be an Echo Indigo I/O. its a pcmcia card so just slots inside the laptop. it gives you a stereo out and a stereo in, and good drivers to boot. :)

or if you wouldnt mind using your laptop for traktor dj etc then you could consider the indigo DJ

if you need loads of inputs outputs etc etc then look at the emu 1616. its pricey but v good from what ive read/heard.

is it?

NO.

Sorry mate but I wouldn't buy a windows laptop unless the programs I wanted to use weren't compatible with mac.

Yeah, look at the macbooks. They are FAST. As in, REALLY FAST.

And like Batfink said, you can run Windows too. Usually faster than your windows box will be able to, lol.
