but he states that for him Coki is all about the drum rhythms..

I would say coki in AN original, and he is definitly a godfather of dubstep, i aint denying that at all!

I hardly ever hear tunes and think 'hey this sounds like Coki'.. i don't think there's loads of cats trying to copy him.. But if i were to categorise him ( as loefah has done in the interview by categorising stuff he hates as 'wobble'...) then i would definitly put Coki in the category of wobble!

I don't hate on any sub genre of dubstep, cause i don't think i'm necessarily bringing anything new to the table, loefah should realise that you can only hate if your bringing something new and better to the table, otherwise it just looks like jealousy.

I don't think Loefah hates on wobble Dubstep at all. he recognises it is aimed at a different demographic to him, he just doesnt personally dig it.

Anyway

It's all about 'Three Views of a Secret' unreal tune!

The main point here i think is it's fantastic that Loe is feeling motivated by music again.

really strongly disagree with a few of your points here, he describes in good depth what separates coki tunes from the other ones - the rhythm and production have a much stronger impact than all the other clones. not a contradiction. nor is he contradicting himself with the friction/kryptic minds thing, they're hating on friction as he's trying to pick tracks just to please the crowd that he has absolutely no knowledge or care for - and also the manner in which he has done it, just before a show. kryptic minds are just doing their own thing, because they care for their music and have a real interest in doing this sound where as friction is just trying to milk the rewards from other people's hard work without any care or work at all. they go into a lot of depth about these differences in the interview man

I dunno. I think spongebob was a particuarly defining moment in the history of dubstep -where we are now has a lot to do with it, for better or for worse.

Back in the dayz we used to sit cross legged in a circle at DMZ and signal the DJ with joss sticks.

Wobble in dubstep came from drum & bass, not Coki

Coki makes meditational bassweight not wobble and you can hear it in the tunes. His tunes are still deep and thats what a lot of people don't understand

the use of wobble pre-dates the mass influx from d&b - in fact it made it possible by making dubstep more accessible to crowds used to it 'going off' rather than focusing on sub bass weight.

personally i'd point to tunes like skream's remix of mala's ancient memories and coki's tortured, which i both love and rate, and both of which were massive DMZ@ 3rd Base anthems, which began to make this style popular. then everything just built up from there, trying to make the next track more hype...

edit: hah skream beat me to it!

He knew enough to be playing some Burial bits at The End over a year ago.

i like the wobble/hype style because it brings that raw energy, and ye it made it more accessible...

but sometimes i do feel it was at the expense of the sub bass weight (a bit). not to say that people dont make the bass weight anymore, but there is a lot more focus on the wobble. Its not even really a problem because dubstep is still very cohesive in all its styles. its just a slight thought that in the future what if people overlook the sub bass and people dont acknowledge this key feature. would be like going to amsterdam and not checkin out the coffee shops or the RLD lol.

but ye i its all about the good old low frequency bass pressure. thats what was/is really unique for me, that in this day and age where most if not all dance music is soley focused on the high and mid range frequencies in all kinds of forms, this was something that turned that upside down by bringing sumin old into sumin new and it worked.

LFO ie. wobble was around in the 60s and 70s it was later popularised in the 80's way before drum and bass. 80s techno used wobble on bass.

Mix seems to fall back into a more formulaic, boring half-step sound after about 40 minutes, but until then, FUCK ME.
