The more grimy side of things

Post by secretagentgel » Mon May 25, 2009 7:51 pm

What got me excited about funky was the hint of grime and 8bar I was hearing, but all I'm really hearing now is the nice-and-housy. Which I feel but I'm missing the dirty bits. 'Jan Driver - Rat Alert' is a favorite. Any suggestions? I've got all the standard Roska, Apple, etc. What's low down atm?

EDIT: Just found Footsteps - Worker. Feeling that.

Just heard the Dark Knight release on boomkat today. Digging that.

This Rass out thing is good, if a little more on the broken thing. Nice one. OH THE A SIDE. Okay, I know this. Yeah, this is good. Don't have it in the bag. Cheers.

Ez Secretagentgel!
What about bok bok's refix of your tune :P ?

You don't mention Lil Silva, but I assume you know his tunes anyway, as he is THE grimiest. Different, Seasons, Burnin etc.
But check his new joint with Ms Bratz of Lava Unit, called "Who do you think you are" Amazing.

I also assume you know Hard House Banton, but he's just put out a refix of some Vinyl Vixens tunes which are HARD. Not necessarily in a Grime way, though. Check them.

And N.B Funky, yes? He's got a new track "The Leak" which is big. But apart from the ubiquitous Riddim Box, 2nd Strike VIP is heavy

Check out "Shoulder Low" by Dafro. Lyrics are a bit suspect but that beat must be EXACTLY what you're talking about. Sick.

K.I.G's new joint, "Bringing it Down" is a speed-garage sampling, grime-esque lyrical badman tune. Nuff kick drums per bar.

Check T2's Funky Remix of his own tune "Secrets" and DJ Q's "Yours" for a bassline meets funky tip. And DJ Q has also refixed SIA's Little Man! Dexplicit's even got one out, but I feel it may be too sexy for you :P

Fingaprint tunes are HEAVY. Night time is ESPECIALLY heavy. Grimey, even. Check Fingaprint's remix of Takeover, which even samples Doin it agen!

Attaca Pesante has a tune called Russian Roulette which is PURE grime string banger, much along the lines of Sticky's Jumeirah riddim, but less organic sounding (thankfully)

Ill Blu's tunes are HARD. But not sure how you'll sit with the vocals...

Check MJ cole's Funky Dub of his tune "Gotta Have It".

Footloose - That's Gangsta is BADDDD, well grimey. On that tip check the Funky remix of Sketpa's rolex sweep and

Footsteps also has a ridiculous tune called Green Light, which is grimey and tribal.

BUT bear in mind

You're missing out on a lot of good music if you don't start rating the sexy stuff :P It's not grimey, but it's still hard!!

Hope that helps!

Wow, thx. Lots of tunes to find. Cheers!

And don't get me wrong. I feel a lot of the deep, sexy stuff. I just like to mix it up and right now I'm missing more of the dark moments.
