It's not actually a part of the Qu'ran as far as I'm aware, there's just a requirement to dress modestly.

If it's their choice fine, if it's the husbands or local mosque's then that's a different matter.
Hmm....

man for a twelve yr old you don't half bring some contentious shit to the table. surely it ain't upto heads on a music forum to decide whats right or wrong, esp not concerning religous dress codes :)

leave that to politicians, they're better qualified fo these things

anti religious comments is clearly the way forward.

do you remember what happened to a certain danish newspaper editor when he posted a comic drawing of prophet mohammed? 5 danish embassies were nearly burned to the ground. a full on riot in pakistan. riots in denmark and truckloads of danish products being burned on the street.

we live in extreme times. the only way forward is tolerance, and acceptance.

yeah but most other religions dont really care if you take the piss out of them, tolerance goes both ways
islam is a religion of absolutes. there's no grey area in interpretating the koran. you can't be a weekend muslim. either you're muslim or your not. hence these kind of situations arise, where one group is reacting to something they don't understand about another group's faith.

the bible has been interpreted and re-interpreted several times. it's an adaptable religion and is ever changing. this has created a culture of adaptability. you can still be a weekend catholic in the eyes of the community and the church.

globally:

1billion believers of islam
2billion believers of christianity

what's the logical solution? tolerance.

imposing your standards on someone else's culture just smells of arrogance.

respect and tolerance is the message 8)

Although as a liberal myself (mostly) how do you justify being tolerant of intolerant folks? Not saying all muslims are intolerant, but there's a great deal of their beliefs (and Christians' beliefs) that aren't quite in the spirit of goodwill to all people of the world. Might be just the spin given to it by religious leaders though, as I'm not sure the books had this malevolence within.

My brother lives up in Leicester where there's a large muslimi population and he says that there's more niqabs being worn than ever before. I think Islam's the new punk in that way - you hate us, fuck you, we'll go further in that direction. Thing is in terms of things like foreign policy, I find myself in complete agreement with them to a point, I just find the whole religious thing rather bemusing after all these years of reason.
Hmm....

I totally agree it's a matter of choice. No-one should be prescribing how someone else dresses, as long as it doesn't harm anyone else blah blah blah.
So - veils should be allowed. Veils with attached telescopic spikes / laser beams might be considered harmful to others and frowned upon.

As a great man once said - 'Death to fanatics!'

(That's a joke by the way, the greatest tragedy would be if we allow these contentious issues to destroy the inaliable right to dumb humour.)

Russ Abbot once came into a shop I was working in. He was in the middle of a hair transplant and looked like Pinhead from Hellraiser. I was not on LSD.
