Post by jake92 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 8:50 am

what programs would you reccomend for making dubstep music? ive been told for PC FL studio (formally known as Fruity Loops) is for begginers to Pro's. Zynewave Podium looks alright. what programs would you reccomend? im also wanting to cut parts out of original songs than turn them into dubstep.
thanks for your time.

Hello

There are lots of options, which one you choose will be based on your work flow style.

Download the demo of all the main offenders, then see whether you like one program more than another.

Some programs to consider: Digital Audio Workstation applications (DAWs)

Logic (If your on a Mac)
Cubase
Reason (Good for learning how real studios are wired up)
Ableton Live (Good for live performances and remixing)
Reaper (Very cheap and easy to pick up)
Mackie Tracktion (Also cheap and easy to pick up)
Renoise (This functions differently from the other sequencers listed above. It runs top to bottom instead of left to right.)

For chopping up audio, try the following:

Audacity (Free and easy to use)
Adobe Audtion (Probably the best audio editor in existence) (imo)
Soundforge
Wavelab
Recycle (Good for chooping up beats and creating Rex loops)

With regards to synths and samplers, try Triangle 2 or Synth 1. They are both simple to use and free! Also try demos of Rop Papen Albino and Vember Audio Surge. These two commercial synths have straight forward controls, and are very versatile.

Check out this portable music production pack I have compiled that includeds Reaper as the main DAW and has plenty of bundled synths, samplers & effects preinstalled ---> http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=

This makes me point you to abbleton live because it has great synchronisation and bending options...

In other words;
it's easy to "chop" a part of a song and then use it in your own, regardless of the speed of your own tune, it even sounds like the same pitch even if you change the tempo!

Check out some of the guides on this forum :)

Cubase 5 is very good for chopping up and editing audio. Also has a Melodyne type feature to correct vocals pitch etc, and time stretching is really easy.

Id highly recommend Cubase 5, its a bit trickier to get your head round than FL at first but i find it much better to use. Tbh you'd be better off trying to find demos for all of them and go with what you prefer. Cubase doesnt have a demo so use your imagination when it comes to that one - as long as you buy it if you like it ;) Its cheap if youre a student.
