I want to listen to EVERY dubstep track ever created

Post by stevetwors » Tue Jun 02, 2009 4:17 pm

How would I go about doing this? I have gone from dabbling in dubstep to completely divorcing myself from 4x4 house etc and only playing dubstep now. But, I have A LOT of catching up to do.

I assume since the genre is still somewhat young, it shouldn't be too far fetched to be able to hear every dubstep tune ever released.

How can I do this? Would I use discogs, or is there some other worldwide dubstep registry I can look at?

youtube is your friend. nearly everything on there now. its the new improved discogs, even with rude commentary and amateur hour music videos..

lol why would you want to do that? its not all good, unfortunately.
why spend that time catching up when you could be searching out the new sounds. Like by all means acquaint yourself with the classics, but EVERY tune?

youtube is definitely my main source of finding music for the past year atleast. that's how i accidently stumbled upon dubstep in the first place. but not everything is up on youtube, not even close! caspa - noise disorganizer (one of my fav tracks at the moment) is not up there. neither is RUF - what are we doing. probably 1/3 of my tracks are not on youtube and i found out about them from this forum (thanks!)

i think youtube will eventually become the new and improved discogs, buts its not there yet, it still has a long way to go. it doesn't even come close to discogs for completeness. maybe if they were used in conjunction then you would have the ultimate perfect discogs, such as every track listed for every album would have a youtube sample next to it. could you imagine how monumental that would be? an online worldwide music sample library - the ability to preview every commercially released song ever?

and about only playing new music and ignoring the past? no way, i love the older stuff just as much as the new, and i dont think its THAT much different to be honest. besides im that type of dj that likes to mix old with new...

what about a list of all dubstep labels in existence today? that would be a huge help to start off with. i could then go to each label's website and listen to samples.

^^ This.

Instead, find what you really feel and listen over and over... whether that be new stuff, old stuff, or whatever.

Do what we're doing. Little of this, little of that. Beatport, youtube, myspace, chat on here, talk to the artists, etch.

There's not an end-to-end list, if that's what you're asking. and i do agree with the opinions that the early stuff is not really worth listening to, so that makes your job a lot easier.
