Post by skywave » Tue Jun 02, 2009 9:55 pm

i was 8 years old, it was 1985, i'd saved some pocket money and went into the independent record shop in town with my mum and bought this as i was into electro thanks to 'Rockit' ... OK OK so its electro, but :D

First hip-hop cassette I paid was Nas-If I Ruled The World single; first hip-hop CD was "And In This Corner.." by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, and my first bit of wax, I think, was Common's 1-9-9-9 featuring Sadat X.

CD wise it was probably Public Enemy It Takes a Nation of Millions & NWA Straight Outta Compton....when i got my 1210s it was 2 x Group Home Supa Star and Ill Al Skratch-Creep it Me LP.

When i was around 6-7 i got a Rockit 7" after collecting tokens from Rice Crispie packets. :D

i received a tape of "Whoomp, There It Is!" complete with a capella and instrumental.

first one i bought (before getting into hip hop) was, Nelly's "Country Grammar". back in whatever year that came out.

my tastes have greatly improved since then if i do say so myself, lol

Didn't get full on into hip-hop until I started buying CD's though and got these:

My dad took me to HMV when I was ten and bought me this for my birthday. He didn't look too impressed...

I... Leeched off of my dad's collection for most of my life.

First remotely Hip-Hop record I ever purchased with my own money was Wiley - Treddin On Thin Ice.
