Its that time of year again! The time of year when we all come together to celebrate Atlanta's own son and promoter extraordinaire, MJ, and his Birthday. MJ's annual Birthday Bashments are widely considered to be one of the parties of the year in Atlanta. Every year the Bashments get more and more insane, and last year's is STILL being talked about today! 2009's installment will be the biggest Bashment to date, and may just be the biggest party in ATL's history!! This year however, MJ is not only throwing his annual Birthday Bashment, which will take place on July 4th, and be larger than life, but he is also throwing a Pre-Party just because the Bashment is that big!

So without further ado, the second biggest party of the year 2009:

STANTON WARRIORS
( www.stantonwarriors.com // United Kingdom)
True pioneers of a sound that broke all the rules back in 1998, Stanton Warriors took garage and twisted it beyond all recognition, dropping speaker shattering bass lines and massive beats...all to devastating effect.
Stanton Warriors had arrived. In 2001, Stanton Warriors laid down a fresh new sound with the seminal ‘Stanton Sessions’ that was instantly signed to XL Recordings. The mix saw off competition from Fat Boy Slim and Deep Dish to win Best Album at the Dance Star Awards, and again at the Muzik Mag Awards where they beat Dave Clarke and Danny Tenaglia, whilst the mix recently featured in Mixmags top 50 best compilations ever industry poll. ‘Stanton Sessions’ went on to become the biggest selling breaks album of all time – a feat as yet unsurpassed. Overnight, Stanton Warriors became the hottest producers on the planet, and today they continue to stay at the very pinnacle of their profession. High profile remixes for such luminaries as Missy Elliot, Fat Boy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Mylo, Freeform Five, and Busta Rhymes amongst others constantly fill their diary, whilst their own original material continues to push the boundaries of musical excellence. They are also incomparable when it comes to working with vocalists. In a scene renowned for instrumentals, Stanton Warriors have jetted around the world to record with vocal talents that include Big Daddy Kane, Twista and The Beatnuts, implementing house, electro, hip -hop and funk elements into their sound. In 2006 Stanton Warriors signed their debut album ‘Lost Files’ to V2, becoming one of the first breaks act to sign to a major. Released to massive critical acclaim, ‘Lost Files’ received support from a variety of djs across a variety of different scenes, with major support from MTV and Pete Tong on Radio 1. The album was also play listed to Radio 1 & XFM daytime shows plus countless other stations around the world. ‘Stanton Sessions 2’ was released at the same time and was immediately voted ‘Album Of The Year’ on Annie Nightingale’s BBC Radio 1 Show., And this is not forgetting the request to mix Fabric’s milestone 30th compilation. Which was voted ‘Timeout Compilation Of The Year’ and ‘Breakspoll Compilation Of The Year’ respectively, with the mix ultimately became one of the fastest selling in the series. Last year Skint Records brought together Dom and Mark’s killer versions of Gorillaz’ ‘Feel Good Inc’, Alter Ego’s legendary ‘Rocker’ and Azzido Da Bass’s ‘Dooms Night’ amongst a great deal more on ‘Remixes’. The compilation perfectly showcased the Stantons sound and made it clear why DJ Mag included them in their recent list of the ‘50 Best Remixers Of All Time’. Their most recent accolades include their placing as Number 1 DJs at Breakspoll, and the Number 1 Breaks DJs in DJ Magazine's Top 100 for the past two years, in a list awash with trance and house DJs. The awards are testament to having played at every major festival and super club around the world – treading an international path that few DJs can rival. Stanton DJ sets are famed for incorporating exclusive original tracks mixed with homemade edits / remixes of cutting edge sounds from underground house through to abstract hip hop and everything in between. It’s all blended into a melting pot of low down booty electro punkishness, and is continually reminding the world why Stanton Warriors have remained unrivalled in their genre for more than a decade.

CHASE AND STATUS
(Ram Records, www.myspace.com/chaseandstatus // United Kingdom)
Since the birth of their Drum and Bass career in 2004, things have been moving extremely rapidly for this London based duo. From their debut release on Renegade Hardware (a remix of Future Cut's 20/20), a continuous output of quality music has followed, catapulting Chase and Status into the premiership of Drum and Bass. 2005 swiftly saw the release of massive club hits such as; 'Hoodrat', 'Menace', 'Iron Fist' and ‘The Ten Tonne EP' on prominent labels such as Renegade Hardware, and B.C Presents, with additional remix duties for Mood 2 Swing's 'I Got Love' and MOBO award winning, Akala. It was however, with the release of their anthemic 'Loves' Theme' on Bingo that showcased Chase and Status as extremely versatile producers with the ability to cover all styles of Drum & Bass. DJ's: Andy C, Grooverider, Friction, Zinc, Pendulum, Fabio and Mampi Swift have shown huge support for their releases which has only been further affirmed by constant radio airplay. 2005 also saw Chase and Status release their massive BreakBeat Kaos anthem: 'Duppy Man' Ft Capleton B/W 'Top Shotta' Ft Roll Deep. Every Drum & Bass Dj heavily supported 'Duppy Man' and both tracks got great radio support on BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra (Including 'A' list playlist) from Mary Ann Hobbs to Skitz and Logan Sama on Kiss. The pair have also received good support for their breakbeat tunes under their 'Loopdigga' alias. 'Timewarp' on Guerilla Tactics has had regular rotation from Radio1 Dj’s, Annie Mac & Annie Nightingale, Kiss Fm’s, Tayo and the likes of Stanton Warriors, Aquasky, and The Breakfastaz. In 2006 Chase and Status released the 'The Druids Ep' on Bingo, which contained the huge title track 'The Druids', 'Believe', 'Come Back' (Ft Top Cat) and 'Havoc' - All tracks received massive support from the full spectrum of the scene. Shortly after, the duo followed in the footsteps of Dj’s Marky and Friction, mixing the latest installment of the Bingo Mix compilations. It was later in the year that Shy Fx approached the duo to remix 'Everyday' Ft Top Cat on Digital Soundbwoy; Chase & Status obliged and the remix became as well know as the original and went on to sell well over its expectations. However it was on Jenna G's album 'For Lost Friends' that gave Chase & Status their biggest tune of the year with the mighty 'In Love'. Jenna G & Chase and Status won the accolade for 'Best Single' at the BBC 1Xtra Drum & Bass award in December voted by over 40,000 of 1Xtra listeners. Not content with awards - Chase and Status continue to work harder than ever and have had a busy start to 2007 with the release of two huge remixes. Firstly there was their take on Brockie & Ed Solo's classic 'Represent' on Undiluted and shortly after saw the acclaimed remix of Plan B’s - 'No Good' on 679. The pair recently signed exclusively with Andy C & Red One's label, Ram Records. April 2007 saw the duo's debut Ram release with 'Dumpling Riddim' B/W 'Disco' which went straight in at Number 1 in the 1xtra Drum and Bass charts and Number 2 in the National Dance Charts on BBC Radio 1. Forthcoming, is the Chase and Status remix of, Mercury Music Prize winner, Dizzee Rascal's 'Sirens' on XL Recordings, and an exciting, highly anticipated album set for early next year, which will showcase the incredible versatility of these talented producers. Quickly getting noticed for their mixing skills as well as their production, Chase and Status have gathered a hectic DJ schedule and can regularly be seen touring the world. Beginning their DJ careers just over 13 years ago, they have witnessed the constant stylistic changes the industry has been through and their sets really reflect this, covering a wide spectrum of Drum and Bass. They still cut dubplates week in week out and are well known for playing exciting sets, often combining different musical genres.

THE UPBEATS
(BC Presents, www.myspace.com/theupbeatsnz // New Zealand)
Since announcing their arrival on the drum’n’bass scene in 2004 – creating more of a shockwave than a mere splash – with their self-titled debut album, Wellington, New Zealand producers The Upbeats have continued to forge an impressive reputation as both masters of their craft and the future of drum’n’bass. In 2007, The Upbeats took a new step in their journey to the top of global dance music with the release of their sophomore album on prominent label Bad Company Presents and embarking on a world tour with BC stars Vegas and Maldini. Enjoying both critical and commercial success with their 2004 debut LP, The Upbeats have positioned themselves among the highest pantheons of the genre across the world, recording and releasing through influential imprints BC Presents, Ed Rush and Optical’s Virus Recordings, Renegade Hardware, Project51 and Project Human. But what sets the partnership of Wellingtonians Jeremy Glenn and Dylan Jones apart from the myriad of drum’n’bass producers both in New Zealand and abroad – many of whom have extensive record-label pedigrees in their own right – is the unique, diverse and cutting-edge Upbeat style. Producing music together for seven years, Glenn and Jones have crafted a sound that ranges between frenetic and energetic liquid funk, intensely moody and claustrophobic drum’n’bass, and soulful indulgences of elevation. The sheer diversity and inventiveness of their sound has paid dividends, as the Upbeats have been in demand the world over for their ability to traverse the eclectic tastes of dance music’s fandom. Their electric live performance has seen The Upbeats play in clubs, festivals and events across the US, Australia and Europe, taking them through Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, the UK, France, Slovenia, Estonia, Hungary and the Netherlands. Along the way The Upbeats have played alongside the cream of international drum’n’bass, notably Grooverider, Andy C, Roni Size, Pendulum, DJ Hype, Zinc, DieselBoy, Concord Dawn, Shapeshifter and Bad Company. And despite the three-year gap between albums, Glenn and Jones have been no stranger to the studio, recording tracks with the likes of Optical, Bad Company, Noisia, Teknik, TeeBee and Bulletproof. Most recently, The Upbeats remixed Shapeshifter’s Bring Change from the fellow-countrymen’s highly-acclaimed album Soulstice. With 2009 set to be another breakthrough year for The Upbeats, capitalising on a legacy of hard work, touring and the right connections, the wickedness this way comes.

KEITH MACKENZIE
(illeven:eleven, www.myspace.com/illeveneleven // Chicago, Illinois)
Originally from Tampa, FL, Chicago native Keith MacKenzie has been at the forefront of all things breakbeat for well over a decade as part of DJ Icey's mighty Zone Records label. After multiple releases and high profile collaborations with the likes of Icey, Infiniti and DJ Fixx (as KMFX) on established US labels like Zone, Afterdark and Bottom-End Records, Keith created his own imprint, Illeven:Eleven. Now 10 releases deep, the label continues to function as a conduit of sorts, melding and combining fresh sounds by up and coming and established US talent with their overseas counterparts in an attempt to smash breakbeat genre conventions. For the past 8 years, Keith has also kept an energetic touring calendar, playing upfront DJ sets to very receptive crowds across the US and internationally. The Booty Breaks sound has been conceived from the ground up as a reflection of the ever changing palette of the average dance music lover. Taking it's cues from current short attention span-addled dancefloor trends, it incorporates elements from disparate genres like house, hip hop/booty bass, mainstream pop, and rock within the existing breakbeat framework. The result is a road-tested, hyperkinetic blend of beats, sure to pique the interest of hardcore fans and casual listeners alike.

STUART ALLEN & ADAM S
(Give Us A Break, www.myspace.com/stuartallen831 // Dayton, Ohio)
Hailing from the renown Midwest Breakbeat Camp, Give Us A Break! Founders and pioneers, Stuart Allen & Adam S have been making a name for themselves across the Midwest for years. Playing one-off raves and club gigs every weekend accross the Tri-State area. These two phenoms drop banger after banger in every set they play. Both impeccable track selection combined with a keen ear for new and rowdy tracks make this breakbeat duo a Midwest favorite. Stuart Allen started buying records in 1996. His love of music and event planning, plus his desire for there to be an official breakbeat representation in Dayton Ohio led him to establish the company, Give Us A Break! in 2003. This is where he met up his partner Adam S, and the two have been playing shows together ever since. The rest was history as they say. Since then everything form their label, their roster, their events, and their city, have been gaining national attention by leaps and bounds. Please welcome these Breakbeat Blasters for their first Atlanta appearance, and lets show them how we represent in The A!
