Hip Hop Forum?

Post by j-sh » Fri Jun 12, 2009 10:22 pm

Basically i really like the music that's talked about in this bit of the forum, but it would be nice if there were more posts.
Anyone know of a forum that's geared more towards Hudson Mohawke, Flylo, Dilla, Afta-1, Lone etc... More so than rap, or 'glitch hop' ie glitch mob, lazer sword etc..

Well they arent up to that much mate, what more do you want? All the releases worth discussing get discussed I reckon. And when they arent releasing tunes they are playing gigs, again fair of these get discussed. Or at least LDN, Bristol & Glasgow

y'know...i kinda feel you on this. i love the music discussed here but feel really kinda awkward getting that deep in it when its a sub-forum of dsf. I was kinda hoping there'd be a link to something because I'm looking everywhere for more like it but....:( That and I want production tips and to hear mixes (I've dled some from above--no doubt) and have a whole "dubs" folder with that in mind. I know its a lot to ask.

If you do find something tho, please put a link here. I'm feeling this more than anything nowadays but when I try to talk to other people, I get the whole Glitch Hop/Wonky dubstep thing when, as much as I like Joker and Tipper, I'm more looking for the cats in that list you wrote up top. LOL til then, I'ma just keep adding these cats to my twitter so I can keep up-to-date

Big up the hip hop subforum tho. Thanks to this, I've found so many musicians setting my heart and soul on fire :D

yeh thats exactly what i was thinking. especially about the production stuff. And also i know what you mean about joker and tipper - like im more into the stuff thats actually not that far removed from hip hop, more so than what people are calling 'wonky' now days.
everyone as part of the hip hop subforum community should pull together in making this part of the forum SO interesting that they'll have to give us a hiphopbutwithlessfocusonrapandmoreandthebeatskindofpostdillaunsequencedsoundsforum.com

I'm not into the specific genre production forum idea. IMO best thing to do is read up on production in general (there's loads of good books), get all that down solid, then fuck with stuff your self.

Prefuse & Dilla inspired GlitchHop is my favorite right now...somewhere between that & Ultravisitor is my dream sound i would like the hardware to produce. i try to feature a lot of this in my weekly internet radio show, mixed in with a lot of Sun Ra & afro jazz because of the obvious inspiration.

So yeh, if anyone knows of a place for discussion or wants to list their favorite artists i would love to expand my collection in this sound range...thanks guys...i love this forum

yeah i'm a member of ghf and its defo dope for new ideas and the like....er....how to put this... Its just still off the mark. I mean, as much as I know how much has been lumped into "hip hop" right now, I'm really all about those left field/experimental/instrumental hip hop jams. Glitch hop is great but that's not really quite what I'm lookin for and same for here. I love this forum....between here and Production forum, I rarely go anywhere else at dsf. And still....I would love to go read production tips specifically geared towards that kinda hip hop.....diff cats fav sample sites and finds....A place to hear new tunes from cats who are just startin and those who have been in it for a minute. Stuff like that.

Like...I think thats what I want the most. To connect with other cats doing the same thing and loving the same sound. Dubs, Tips, Announcements, etc. The suck thing is....as much as I want it, because I want to focus on production, I don't want to start it because, as we can see with the growth of dsf, online forums can have a mind of their own and honestly, I don't think I'm prepared to sacrifice creative time to foster it if it goes off. :( I know. That makes me selfish. :(

Still....if some place existed like that....it would be great. I'll keep joining diff ones til I get the closest and just learn what I can from where I go. :)

i would love a place like this too, but if you're talking about the style of music i think you're talking about i'm pretty sure most producers get their samples from old records. i could be wrong. but when i make things like this i always sample beats and shit from old jazz/soul/early era hip hop 12"s. sorry that what i said is no help. just thought i would say.
