Hello,
I'm pretty new to the production of music.
Since the last months I hear alot of tunes with basslines that sound like they have a voice. i.e murda sound from bar 9 was the first tune where I heard this effect. A more recent tune is the future from trolley snatcha.
I have absolutely no idea how, I tried the choirs in reason without succes.
Maybe anyone here can give me a headstart.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello
There are a few possible ways of doing this.
> They may have used a vocoder.
> They may have used a formant/vowel filter.
> They may have been clever bastards with a sample that integrates really well into their bass sound... ?
I'd suggest you find some tutorials on Google or Youtube that explain how vocoders and formant filters work.

Bitcrusher, with that wierd timbre it gives it, in albino it's called the "DIV" and I'm not sure what it does.
Ahh yeahh, that's the sample rate, that's what it is. Found out earlier today.

id say the most common method is to bit crush, as well as maybe a formant filter. the main thing is to get the starting sound rite, different filter envelopes and wobble timbres will make different vowel sounds and what not.

That Circle vst is sick. I couldnt get my head around it when someone else recommended it on here before but it sounds worth giving a go.

ill-esha wrote:Certain VSTs are better equipped to generate this sound. For instance, FAW Circle (my 2nd fave bass synth) has a "mouth filter" and you can automate it back and forth between three vowels of your choice - sick!! Look in the middle near the top of the pic below:
Camel Alchemy (my top bass synth) allows you to load any audio samples, including vocal, and apply all sorts of different synthesis methods to them - you can edit the partials in additive mode, or use spectral and granular effects... DROOL!

like to add u-he zebra 2 to the list

What is the 'formant' filter on the Malstrom and how do you run something thru it? I am guessing you need to flip it and re-wire in/out ?
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

err, no disrepect but you guys may be overcomplicating things slightly. bitcrusher + experiment, simple.

Reason doesn't have a bitcrusher tho....

Reason doesn't have a bitcrusher tho....
Yer it does..!!
The Scream 4 Distortion Device has a setting called 'Digital' which is actually a bit crusher algorthm..... (Hears the sound of Mr T saying 'Fool!')
And seprately, the Malstrom has a waveshaper with some interesting modes, like the quantise and noise modes. They can both be pushed to destroy any sound!

(The Malstrom can be used as an insert effect for those of you who haven't explored the back yet)
