some people get confused by the words "shocking" and "scary".

for example the original version of halloween is scary, but the remake from rob zombie is shocking...

yeah, psychological horror is actually scary as opposed to the gore and special effects laden bollocks that gets churned out most of the time.

Some awesome films I'd forgotten about have been mentioned here

Tale of two sisters, The Ring, Jacob's ladder.

The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a chilling film, as is the the original Nosferatu. Texas Chainsaw Massacre too, that film has such a raw, almost documentary like feel to it.

It's not scary but I watched a scene from "cutting moments" on youtube (since been removed) and I had to lie down for a bit. Some seriously painful looking shit, with a woman cutting her lips off with scissors, all close up and shit.

I watched that august underground thing once too, that was fucked, but was a bit boring aswell.

First horror film I ever watched was scream when i was 7 i think and that really fukd me up, watching it now is more of a comedy. enit about the blair witch the ending is seriously wtf. first time i seen the ring in the cinema fukd me up but I seriously do think that the exorcist is the scariest film i've seen, the way the camera moves and visually what you see and what the whole thing is about just fukks me up, it ain't like any of these modern perfectly polished horror films.

I've watched a lot of horror in my day.

my favs

-the first Hellraiser movie
-the ring (remake)
-event horizon
-the eye (the japanese version)
-ju-on (the grudge was the remake of this movie---the grudge was fucking terrible)
-Friday the 13th 1 n 2
-Suspiria
-the exorcist

The French right now are some masters of horror: these films:

-INSIDE-- this film is really fucked up and brutal, and had me hiding behind my pillow the whole time (never happens) holy shit you people aren't ready----

Also, MARTYRS----- very screwed up movie that I still think about every day, The ending is :o

Hellraiser
The Excorcist
REC
Martyrs
Pet Semetary
The Eye (Original)
Rosemarys Baby
Salems Lot
Session 9
The Fog (the original, living in a small seaside town myself, this genuinely scares me on a foggy night)
Jacobs Ladder
The Shining

Scariest films for me are The original Excorsist film.

And also The Texas chainsaw massacre, because its loosely based on a true story

As is The Exorcist, this will fuck you up for sure but check it out if you're interested.

That youtube audio really messed me uyp when I heard it, but it's an interesting case for sure.
Ok so maybe The Exorcism of Emily Rose takes more from this case, but theres no way The Exocist wasnt influenced slightly by this.
