the Samson usb condenser mic is an easy way to get a decent recording. Just connect it to a laptop via usb and viola!. Sure the initial recording isnt the best quality but with soundforge you can easily make up for the loss.

but i gotta look into the Samson Zoom from the way people are talking about it here :!:

the zoom h2 has 2 sets of x-y microphones so you can do surround sound recording which is amazing for the price, good quality microphones aswell, i kicked mine down the stairs and it still works :D

Interesting thread!

Btw check DSF13 pak will include exclusive field. Jus sayen..

A cool cat put this out a while ago, stuff i recorded live in India with a mic, a minidisk and a camera

http://www.fieldrecordings.net/

He processed the sound lately , he is more into visual, but i still got countless hours of raw footage+sound. A DVD was supposed to get released on an old chill label (Liquid Sound Design) in 2001 or so but they changed management .. I guess it COULD fit with Dubstep imho.
I used some of this for an 8.1 surround av pres with an audio visual art collective at the SAT in montreal, that is to be diffused in musee des beaux arts de Taiwan.. :G:

I saw him play in Melbourne at the end of 2007 and it was magic.. various objects like springs hooked up to his sound rig to create his pieces.. Nice stuff.

Oh yeah.. if you are looking for some slices of field recordings try One Minute Vacation:

http://www.quietamerican.org/vacation.html

Mine from 30th Jan, 2006:

"Contributor Simon Hampson from Melbourne writes of today's vacation, 'I made this recording walking outside a family house in the town of Jasin in Melaka, Malaysia. Children can be heard walking along with me; and at the end of the recording hear the bells and faint drums of a monastery across the road. Recorded on the 26th of August, 2005, with Sound Professionals binaural mics and a Sony HiMD recorder.'"
