i.d. this Graffiti off Brick Lane?

Post by drbluebeat »

I took these last week in Sclater St off Brick Lane, E1 - the question might be moot as between each piece it says very clearly in 10ft high letters "Mike C" but I haven't seen this name before? I can id a few of the pieces round east london, Eine, Mr Yu, Discreet, etc but not seen this before...

From left to right it looks like this:

And as much as I could grab the perspective of the whole thing:

Some other bits from the area here

"Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets."

- Travis Bickle in the film "Taxi Driver"

I noticed the "TRP" in the corner, I've seen other peices by TRP and wonder if this is a tribute to a "Mike C"?

Clueless currently...

this artist (trp) has taken something as banal, lifeless and commercial as lichtenstein's work, and made something truly relevant, resonant & powerful out of it.
sublime.
gold out of shit.

Back to the original question - According to Duncan the piece is by Cept - there is an earlier incarnation here. Duncan reckons the letters might actually be by Eine as it is a lot like his current work. So, a joint effort and still probably a memorial to a, so far, unknown Mike C.

If you know Cept or Eine or anyone that does I wouldn't mind knowing who Mike C was (or is) just to satisfy my curiousity.

uh, you should contact 'invisiblemadevisible' on flickr, you'll either get an extremely accurate answer to your question or told to mind your own business, if you get my drift

I reckon its a tribute to a dead friend like you say

shit sorry mate I'm an idiot - invisiblemadevisible is not Cept. Cept does commercial stuff and produces music using the name Advertisng The Invisible. I got the two mixed up
