I didn't recognize majority of his tunes, were they new? seriously, if his set wasnt the second one, when most ppl were still not by the stage, he'd have ripped the crowd. i'll write to him asking about the tracklist for this one

Joker nailed it for me, also sounded the loudest and clearest out of all the sets
Dorian Concept was brilliant as expected
Gaslamp was a great showman
Kode 9 was too quiet and forgettable, can barely remember a thing about his set and Spaceape i could barely hear either ...
gutted to have missed Take but got there late and queued outside for no good reason apart from the security being able to make us queue

definitely not enough love for Samiyam here.
the second half off his set, when it sounded like he played b2b his own beats, was the bizness.

Had a great night, loved the venue and a lot of the music. The soundsystem was fucked when we got there for the last part of Kode 9, seemed to recover but wasn't top notch IMO. Still, it wasn't really a problem...
Fly Lo - didn't enjoy the fucking around with beats/stop-start nature of his set but he played some really good stuff. Weezy RMX/1983 and Massage Situation were the highlights for me. Wish he'd played a few more tunes 'straight'. Dorian Concept was really good, have never heard anything by him really but will definitely check some more stuff out... Joker smashed it esp for the first hour or so when it was pretty much all stuff by him I suppose - really underlined for me how high the level of his production is, so much weight and clarity and earworm melodies. I even enjoyed some of the wobble tunes that I'd usually have hated... Benji B set was great, stuff like 'Moon Shoes', that Bullion tune, 4th Chamber, Lean FWD, Vancouver, LFO(!)... was hoping for more Dilla but still... Big night overall

Was amazing.
Samiyam smashed it for me as did Dorian Concept, Joker's sound on that rig was ridiculous and even GLK made me enjoy about half an hour of standard wobble shit. I thought Kode 9 was so so and in a bit of an awkward place on the line up (after GLK), but I've always been a bit indifferent to his stuff anyway.

re: the Kode segment, the engineers were havin some trouble gettin the sound right for his bit during soundcheck, particularly the balance with Spaceapes voice. so that might explain the lack of clarity. as u can tell it's a concrete garage and a real fuckin pain in the arse to mix sound in. reflections all over the place.
yup.. why people use those sm58's for gigs like that is beyond me - for his style he shoul really have a high quality headset mic, nice and close and crispy, feed the input to kode 9's wee mixer.. sorted.mrbeatnick wrote:re: the Kode segment, the engineers were havin some trouble gettin the sound right for his bit during soundcheck, particularly the balance with Spaceapes voice. so that might explain the lack of clarity. as u can tell it's a concrete garage and a real fuckin pain in the arse to mix sound in. reflections all over the place.
