All I mean is it's a bit reactionary to seperate stuff so brutally at the source, the attitude I got from reading about Dubbage is its a very reactive/seperate movement to something which to someone up in Nottingham seems like one interesting evolution of UK House music with a range of sounds coming from different camps.

I think being seperated from the source of these offshoots and genre-bases has it's advantages for us non-londoners. We don't have the shit side of certain genres thrown in our faces constantly. We can pick and choose, so therefore, only hear the stuff that's crucial to ourselves.
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

Infact not being London you have search harder (hey I dont care it's more fun) for the better end of UK underground house or whatever, I have only bought one decent Funky record in Notts over the counter and that was a Shystie remix so it was hardly cutting edge new school beats.
I think when this shit hits up north you'll be flicking through 20 Crazy Cousins remixes to get to it.
I think if anything that's a result of separating shit out so much and so quickly at the source, because to people buying this shit in they will just see it as a big mess and buy it all and mix it together without the quality control.

Yeah I'm in agreement, I guess what I mean is 'cos nothing has hit Newcastle yet, the only music of this nature I have heard is the music I have found on the internet, I have never bought a record in a record shop up here so I don't really have to be exposed to the rubbish...yetJoe C wrote:really? Lil Silva is sick. His production skills aren't exactly top notch but that didn't seem important to me when I was 200% jacking to seasons, funky flex, different etcetc. on the dancefloor. Raw still but that shit makes you move. And D Malice's joint on the Fantastic 4 EP similarly, production isn't mindblowing by any extent but the tune has a great vibe, good melody, and often gets an ipod wheel which is imo the best judge of a tune. its just like 90% of grime is shittily produced.. seems to me it's a genre where that's not so important. (and trust me, I'm usually one to judge a book (tune) by its cover (production))

This is a good debate- I'm with you on Seasons- Whilst I don't rate everything Lil Silva has done that tune is straight up house- ( miles ahead of MC hype like Maxwell D) all about that bline hard percussive drums and use of space in the track- all the best house tracks (of whatever style) contain an element of funk (i.e the groove) in them.
Yes the quality control needs to be there but thats down to DJs to not play the badly produced hype cash ins isn't it?
Marcus, Roska, Figerprint all play different styles but the majority of what I hear them play is tune- thats what matters, its tune or its not tune (as subjective as what the definition of tune is anyway)
Seems people are scared of the word RAW- I like deep house when its done well like Right here or leaving on a jet plane but theres too much tepid, middle of the road wishy washy tracks played where's the Jovonn or Prescription label type tracks for example!? They are deep and heavy at the same time both instrumentals and vocals- who plays tracks in this style?
Malice Poison, Gabryelle, praise, good tracks and Malice is a good DJ he played a heavy set on Saturday at Heartbroken including Jovonn Banger -yes its old but I don't care its RAW and proper- who plays these type of tracks out?

All of the nights i do with geeneus or my own stand off nights play those types of tracks and similar tracks by well known uk producers, not just US.
The reason why you dont hear erm @ funky nights is because the djs do not research whats out there past there email boxes of leaked & shared tracks!
Check Yellow, Circle, Air, Format for real deep house, bangers.. dance floor smashes
Check producers like ATjazz or lables like Freerange UK tings, Deep House that rolls and isnt wishy washy boring or lovey dovey etc......

Yeah of course its out there I’m aware of that which is why I asked question – I go to nights all over the place (have done for years) and across different music scenes from Jazz funk, Broken to heavy weight jazz dance but one of the reasons I stopped going to house nights for a long time was the quality and inconsistency of music I was hearing however this latest wave has got me interested and since you’ve mentioned these nights and shows I’ll investigate.
You are right regarding the depth of some DJs if they spend some time researching they could unearth a ton of overlooked, underplayed tunes
