Minimal is the dub of techno - with more bassweight on the low end than most of the other sub genres.

as far as the couple of london clubs that sometimes play minimal go, it is SO SO boring nowadays. went to wetyourself/trailertrash at fabric a couple months ago and that truly seemed like the nail in the coffin.
style of eye was playing, and his productions, are sick, and yet it was musically one of the worst nights ive ever been to. tunes worth getting excited about came at a rate of about 1 an hour.

used to regular it at egg in kings cross and there i watched minimal go from something pretty good - wasnt electro but i still dug it - to something unbearable.

possibly just a london hipster thing though, havent really had the same issue with techno nights in pompey where im at uni, they've been fine.

edit: oh and yeah i have produced one minimalish track just for shits (not true minimal, but kind of. dont really know that much about techno) ...

No he's right. It was cool 10 years ago, but most of the stuff nowadays makes me want to shoot myself (there's still good stuff out there though, Ostgut Ton, Sleeparchive, Modern Love, etc.).

As for tips, POLYRHYTHMS. If you listen to old minimal (when it was actually interesting) it's full of clever polyrhythms. Some Philus tracks have 3 against 4 rhythms (kick every beat, donk sound every 3 quarter beats), some Fluxion songs have five against four, etc.

Tune is big! If I can manage to get a techno collection together, that's definitely getting played.

Personally? I hate the scene in holland (trailer trash) and I can't stand the music... Think it's druggy music with no soul... But hey, that's me...

Not as bad as my GF though, she gets VERY aggressive if she hears minimal... :o

Not trying to bring it down or anything... I mean, if it works for you, go for it! Just sharing my thoughts ;)

But there's some pretty decent crossover stuff. I think for instance 2562 is pretty much minimal / housey influenced, if you like both minimal and dubstep, check his shit out!

Right!
That's what I wanted to say...Anyway I think OstGut Ton stuff is more techno then minimal..Some releases are raw techno which is good.
The new album from PAS it's amazing for example.

For minimal I mean the boring trendy stuff.

to give it credit, it does seem to be the only club music that i still find reasonably listenable on k - it fucks with my interpretation of music pretty badly. dnb is a no go, dubstep suffers too. minimal though, gallop away.
but when you find yourself coming down with none of the stuff to be found and nothing but minimal playing, absolute fucking nightmare.

Love minimal techno/music in general. To me the though, I think minimal is all about artist like Ritchie Hawtin, Signal, or even Porter Ricks. Just the groove guys like those build with pretty much very basic elements. And they are especially more than what they seem on first listen.
