"Just give him the fuckin' money!"

Seriously though, can't help too much except to say it sounds like there's some kind of ring mod processing, and that it's (as is done frequently in this kind of music) actually a few different basses being used alternately.

But yeah, what Dza88 said. He's on here and MySpace.

go DOA, search 'Spor bass processing' or 'Noisia bass processing' and you'll be in the same ball park but not as grimey and grainy. KS got the filth down to a tee

Shoe Shine redemption is the heaviest, most underated/unheard of tune about; that growly bass just fucks me over. Critical Step is just wonky Bristol badness, love that tune just as much. Jump Up Adventures in just fuked. and the rest....

much love for KOAN Sound, most underated producer in the game, especially in Bristol where no one gives a fuck about ppl who take influence from modern dnb

it would help if you said what bass your after though, they've done a bit

Koan kills Statix 3 billion times over imo.....!!!! :o  :N:

Koans sound is technically superior, and artisticly more diverse.... (imo)

To the op, it sounds like Koan creates a lot of samples, then gets funky chopping up his samples & sequencing.

For individual types of sounds, reverse engineer some presets on any of the synths you mentioned to get an idea of how they are programed.

As mentioned, I'm certain the key to this style is getting ninja on the cuts/chops & edits whilst sequencing standard samples of standard types of sounds (pads, drum loops, basses etc)

this is why Statix are putting two Koan releases out before their own, they clearly deserve it

but your wrong aparently,

lol @ reading some of these comments,

Only one of the guys from koan make the tunes, its 3 mates. Was all done internally in reason until recently when his tunes are made with reason rewired with cubase, All done on the same pc as one of the guys from statix.....

Ive worked on alot of new tunes with him recently that are due for release and all his badass bass sounds are done in reason essentially, he dosent do things any differently to any other talented reason user really but it is all about resampling that push's things to such a high level of production.....
He has this really techy sound as a result of making dnb first - so what i would say for people interested in making these sounds is go and research noisia and spor's bass processing, its all done in cubase - thats ur best bet ;)

Not that they are just good mates but Koan are the most overlooked name in the genre, the production value is head and shoulders above 95% of everything else in dubstep, and without a doubt some of the most innovative stuff out there - and believe me when i say 'You have heard NOTHING yet.....'

Look out for 'Asa - Catch You (KOAN Sound Remix)' coming on Audio Banquet aswell as the 12's of 'Alchemy' on trillbass, then 'Akira/Endorphin' on screwloose with many more in the pipeline!
