actually, the piano roll trick is one of the most helpful tips ive ever gotten on these forums. fucking brilliant.

and 3za, if youre not trying to be helpful i can only assume youre trying to be counterproductive which leads me to the question, "what are you doing in this forum?"

sorry for being a twat i was trying to be helpful in my own little way. the piano roll trick is good and is very useful what i was trying to say is there is more to writing music than just that little trick (you can write a song using more then 7 notes). heres a little guide on music theory

Scales usually used in dubstep:

Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Blues, Diminished, half Diminished and maybe the Jazz minor.

But there isn't any rules, that's just what I, and alot of people think sound good.

The best way to learn the scales is learn the Major scale and see which notes flattened makes a certain scale.

e.g- A major scale with a flattened 3rd, 6th, and 7th makes a natural minor scale.

Also a good way to learn them is to learn how they sound, as it's the fastest way to put them into a song. :wink:
