Initially alot of grime stemmed away from Uk garage to AVOID mc's...Uk garage got all pop musicy and people wanted the dirtyness back so made stuff that wasnt friendly to the melodic party style vocals of uk garage at the time.

No doubt grime got well and truly arse raped by grime crews fighting eachother but the roots were speak for themselves.

Youngstar for instance a classic example of someone wanting to move away from the happy vocaly garage of 98-01 ish times.

Have a listen through the old all star producers, notice the names for a start were theres plenty of now dubstep names.

And anyone who says dubstep took nothing from grime after listening to this is a LIAR

Long time no see Dynamat........Ohh the rwd forum days lol

I think grime played a big part in where dubstep is today, You can see the grime influences in many dubstep tunes today.

If I was, then yr post would have made me happy no end.

as it is, the only person saying "vile things" in this thread happens 2b u.

I'm caucasian, middle class...and married, thank you. I dont believe that this has any baring on my argument (which is not new, or original) that generally the ppl who deserve credit in this world dont get it, meanwhile the privileged cash-in on their hard work.

race and class are still an issue in britain and, as elsewhere, music is not immune.

At no point have i said that everyone who makes or listens 2 dubstep is posh and white. nor everyone who makes grime poor and black, or anything else. please read my comment properly b4 kicking off, it only makes u look like a fool.

you are not the owner of dubstep. goodbye.

There's black people and guns in the UK? :D
I'm from New Orleans Louisiana, so I know about poor and black, but none of that has any bearing on who creates music and successfully sells it. Dr. Dre, came from money. Juvenile and Lil' Wayne, came from jack shit in ghettos so gnarly little UK rappers would probably pee on themselves if they got caught in one after dark. Guru from Gangstarr, Rakim, Tupac Shakur, Biggie, all came up poor and sold a shit ton of records. Let's not confuse making music and selling it here, whether it's crap, genius, original or bitten. Moving units and making tunes are two totally different things. Most of the people on this forum for one(myself included) don't sell enough tunes to not have a job outside of making/playing music anyway. And yeah, all the grime I have ever heard, which is not much really, has been the dumbest, bobo ass bullshit. I'm so glad Caspa could show his true genius on his last album by including some retarded sounding grime bullshit to go along with his repetitive wobble crap. :z:

um, I better clear my previous post up before it gets taken the wrong way.

I was having a laugh and trying to say "grime = gangsta" and "dubstep = white boys with funky hair clothes, hair cuts" lol

Only messing.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

lets b honest here, grime is/was made by britain's ethnically mixed working-class, and grime invented this shit. dubstep is mostly made by white middle-class who have ripped off the innovations of grime.

^^ Your words not mine. You are the one that looks a fool when you post deliberately antagonising comments then go and contradict yourself when you realise what a knob you have been.

Believe me I read your comment properly. In fact I read it several times because I couldnt believe my eyes. Think before posting in future.

in what way have i been contradictory? In what way have i retracted any statement? I stand by my first post 100 percent.

I think the problem here might b your understanding of what ethnically mixed means: ethnically mixed means just that, mixed. i.e. of various racial backgrounds. i.e. not just of one race. i.e. not only black. not only asian. and not only white. ALL of these. including white. your the one with the race problem if u think that ethnically mixed DOESNT include caucasian.

I'm having trouble understanding what u r getting so upset about.

First of all DONT patronise me by offering to explain the meaning of the term "ethnically mixed" I fully understand what it means.

And as you stand by your original post I will stand by mine. I dont appreciate you making racist genralisations about the community that use this forum. You think its ok to insult white middle class people just because you are one? Well I think you are wrong.

It doesn't matter who you are, were your from, your color skin, or what you do, it's just you and the music.

The difference draws it's influences from the instrumental forms of the genres; grime is focused on toasting and lyrically defecating upon the opponent, hence grime krews etc. Grime is also the equivalent to gangster rap/ hip-hop here in the United States. Dubstep draws from such influences, however, it usually excludes MC's and has a consistent focus on garage and grime influences.

we tend to have plenty of mcs at our dubstep nights
sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't
then again a lot of them are mainly dnb mcs so they get thrown for a loop
but yea i dig some grime a lot of the uk hiphop/rap not so much

@ phaseten
there is no relationship between music and colour bro, causal or correlative.

@ op
dubstep is/was just a natural progression of the demise of uk garage and drum n bass. grime has its place as a progression of uk garage, but also as an answer to the us hiphop scene.

haha yeah maybe.........

I guess this thread kinda touched on something very close to my own heart. Maybe we will have to agree to disagree on this one......

Props for standing your ground tho, youre obviously a clever guy who is willing to stand up and be counted and for what its worth there are certain parts of what you said that I agree with.

Even though it sounds corny as fuck I guess what I really think is important is that we retain a sense of unity within the scene. Its so important to the longevity of this music that we dont fall into in fighting and needless criticising of our peers (im not sure peers is the right word here but you get the idea). Thats why I got vexed at your comments about most people on here being "middle class white geeks" because I saw it as a needless critcism.

Thanks for the mutual exchange.

Im gonna make that my last words on the matter..

Peace
