firky lol at an admitted pirate talking about a proper discussion on piracy, of course not, you're biased. we all are!

the beef is primarily the fact that in your choice to either, illegally download something, buy it, peep a preview of it, or - leave it at that and not possess it in any form - the last choice never is made - at all - full stop and this is what the people complaining about the entitlement complex are on about

This man has been one of the first influential people in bringing dubstep to people. He relies completely on sales to bring upcoming artists to light. And then people give thanks by pirating his whole catalog.
it works both ways man...the ONLY REASON i know about Planet Mu is after finding a folder called [Warp Records] on someone's shared list. That led to me purchasing a music video collection that had u-ziq on it. I downloaded several live sets & an album & after this pretty quickly purchased multiple Planet Mu releases on vinyl! In adition, i know at least 2 people who have purchased u-ziq vinyls after my having recomended or played them. :)

I agree with that but I wouldn't be so absolute as to say "not possess it in any form". Take someone like Elvis or the Beatles, they've been available to buy for decades and I personally think owning something by the likes of them is of a lesser crime than owning something of a new artist struggling to make a name for himself... even then I'd say that the artist can still benefit from piracy.

I can't recall any artist never making it big because people kept nicking the work and putting it on the internet, I could be wrong here?

i've never seen a logical reply to my saying that there should be an OPEN & HONEST world-wide trade of art & sound. I'm not saying to get all the fucking dubstep you can for the least amount of money...i'm saying if its better than other stuff, which you would have to listen to to know...then BUY it...if the effort is worth supporting, then support it!!!

Point is the industry has done nothing but try to squeeze the people out of their cash.

Let me finish my mixtape point to illustrate this. In holland we have an organisation called BUMA STEMRA, they represent the combined artists. Similar to the RIAA I guess.

They can send you a takedown notice for putting your own music on your website. Sad but true. They will, and are capable doing so by law. They will come down 3x as hard if it is a site hosting mixtapes that are not originaly from the DJ himself. So any effort hosting a mixtape site in Holland is pointless.

So yes... It is piracy. Legaly that is. The point that everybody (even the dj's themselves) think it's alright doesn't change that.

Keep in mind also you are generating money for Soundcloud, Megaupload, Rapidshare etc,

Then in holland you have the SENA. They are a sister organisation to the BUMA. They are the ones that charge discotheques and DJ's. They will even charge livesets. Hosting a 2000 people free rave in a legal location, will result in a 3000 euro bill. Even if you prove that it was 100% bands and liveacts. I have seen people getting in serious debts over this.

This is all good you say? Money flows to the artists? Yeah... If your music is played on the radio and is from sony/virgin it is. But these people charge by the track, regardless if you are affiliated. Money get's devided because at a couple of bars they will have listening computers stationed, so they can spot trends...

Lone Dubstep DJ get's paid? Nah... But get's charged for playing his own tracks.

These people also lost about 400mln euro's because of bad investments.

FUCK the industry. I will buy from independant labels but I have no problem downloading the latest Eminem album. NONE...

I see what you're saying sifres, the trademark racket as separate from the individual artist - that complicates things

mhm...thats what has been said a few times now...it's not so simple...

if people were honest with each other about money(and everything else) in general then it wouldnt be an issue. society as a whole is focused on profit & financial security. i know this is going into hippie talk now but if everyone in the world was open minded & honest towards their fellow man then not only would this not be a problem, but many issues would quickly be solved. It won't happen in our lifetime, or possibly even our evolutionary step...but a positive & focused direction is a good start... :)
