Trying to get into Dubstep DJing! Need Help!

if he doesnt know about it and cant do it (im not necessarily talking about double dropping by the way) then he isnt in the position to be playing out anyway.

and people encouraging a newcomer to not mix, which is what a DJ is suposed to do is insane. Mixing 16 bar intros into 16 bars of another tune is not DJing, its barely mixing.

If you want to start mixing, you should, from the off, practice being able to keep 2 tunes locked for as long as you can.

What keeps a set interesting, in my opinion, is not necessarily the tunes themselves, but the way they are mixed together.

and this is just my personal opinion, but PLEASE if you continue to dj, get the crowd hyped by learning to mix well, not with rewinds. get on my fucking nerves i swear, i dont need to hear 4 rewinds in an hour.

got to agree with this, don't know why people see rewinds as a standard thing now days. A reload is only appropriate if the crowd is going fucking mental and calling for it like no-ones buisness. Otherwise they loose there appeal. Too many reloads ruins the flow of a mix.

It's true, I went to see Kromestar and Tes La Rok a few days ago and I heard a LOT of rewinds. I think they can be pretty cool, but not if you hear, like you say, 4 per hour...

As people have said one or two wheels a set is alright but constantly is fucking annoying. Went to the free Volks BBQ a couple of weeks ago and some of the people couldn't mix for shit and he wheeled a song before he had even mixed it out.

Just pissed me off as i know i can mix better but i don't get any events like that with a crowd that actually appreciate's the music.

Looking for live show, and that’s where I ran into a little problem Denver, CO doesn’t seem to have much of a Dubstep community yet, there’s one Dubstep promoting group called Sub.Mission and only two shows coming up in the next two months and they are producers/DJs from UK, Kutz(7/24) and N-type(8/7). So, thinking I don’t want to have to wait for people to come over from UK every time I want to see a show I decided to try to get Dubstep larger in Denver, CO.

First of all, Sub.Mission is doing big things. As someone who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico I can say without a doubt that you're living in one of the thickest scenes right now. The only places you could get deeper stateside are San Francisco, LA, Portland, Austin, or New York. Dude you live next to Beta. N-Type and Starkey are going to play on a Funktion 1 soundsystem.

Not to be condescending, but do you have any idea what that means?

and one thing youll learn in the future is as tempting as it might be, try not to play all your biggest tracks back to back, it can get tiring. and i absolutely understand in the beginnig youre not exactly gonna be knee deep in records, but dont be afraid to play some b-sides or less popular tracks.

first of all as someone who lives in denver my self there is definitely a lot more going on than you say, for example 'bassgiving'(http://glitchhopforum.com/events-usa/ba ... t2057.html) at beta thanksgiving eve which there will be some glitch and other styles there as well, but these artist have for sure been known to plaY dubstep in the past, and as said before beta currently ranked number one club in the country by dj mag(personally i think only because of the dj booth, the sound system, and beatport but regardless) is like two blocks from coors field pretty easy to find.
shoot me an email sometime(pm me and i'll give it to you) i'd be glad to give u some info, not to mention i know some local dj's who might be willing to give u some pointers.

Can I add..might be a little late.
I'm gonna preface this with: I am a huge fan of vinyl, I own 1210s not CDJs BUT If I lived in the US, I'd get CDJs not vinyl. When I living in NYC for a little while in Autumn last year, the dubstep selection everywhere I could find one, was pretty thin on the ground and, understandably, pretty expensive compared the UK.
