dubstep is more mediative and contemplative, its not got energy or aggression like grime does. yeah, dubstep has much better production values as a WHOLE compared to grime, which is one thing it has over grime, but there are still lots of producers in grime with high production values like wonder, scratchy, terror danjah, wiley, geeneus (apart from his last shit 12 on solja which was needlessly brutal), and so on and so on. of course there are a fair amount of shit, amateur, cant play for toffee type of producers who have somehow got what sounds like their first beat they ever made played on rinse, but thats not everyone. its just a shame the shit beats like that get played. but theres no one in grime saying that you have to have well produced beats, so theres nothing making new producers have to practice a bit before they start submitting beats out there. theres not much quality control in grime, sadly. much of this i think is cos the DJs dont exercise enough quality control - theyre the ones with the power. if they made sure they only played tracks with high production values, it would probably up the levels. saying that though, some recent sets ive been hearing have had really hi quality production from start to end. (and that doesnt have to mean glossy and big budget - a lot of older 2000-era garage beats were well produced but not all glossy like american hip hop beats, people in grime seem to be totally the other way, and its as bad as the most amateur shit from southern hip hop producers - i actually partly blame the poor keyboard beats in US hip hop as being a bad influence)Fushimi wrote:When the poster said "dubstep is grime made properly", doesn't that just mean that the snare sounds in grime are usually a bit weedy and sound like they're straight off an 80's drum machine? From that small difference a whole world of arguments is made.
Dubstep is Grime made properly!

yeah a lot of dubstep tracks have got boring ideas and not much happening but the quality of the sound is better. one thing dubstep does have though is the bass - i miss heavy basslines in grime.Alex bk-bk wrote:thats bull shit man

lol yeh im afraid so mate, when i hear system or rufage or punisher remix dropped in a rave it sends me wild, what can i say. different strokes for different folks i guess. while skream's tracks have more elements which bring them towards the fullstep as it were, not many of them hype me up as much as some of loefah'sgeoff wrote:Loefah. . energy??? You're mad. I can't even believe those two words are in the same sentence. Skream provides the most energy in halfstep dubstep by miles.elgato wrote:closest dubstep has to offer for energy is probably loefah's output, which to be fair, does get people very very hype

I think this a RIDICULOUS statement to make.......
ENOUGH OF THE SILLYNESS!
Dubstep and grime have one thing in common and thats BPM....
Personally, grime is bullshit to me, no feeling, no soul, get me.
fair enough it might be more energetic in some peoples opinions, but thats all it is....it never gets taken to a deeper, more emotive level like dubstep tunes do. I feel grime tunes are tailor made so that an MC can spit all over them...no real melodic elements. You cant chat lyrics all over dubstep, but our MC's are amazing host's and still get thier little rhymes in...who wants to hear an MC chattin non-stop over tunes nowdays anyways?!? i certainly hate it over DnB. And like someone said ealier, i skank the fuk out to dubstep all night, get a right sweat on like i do when i go ravin to DnB....pure energizing uplifing bizzel gwarrn at dubstep dances
DUBSTEP IS WHAT GRIME WISH'S IT WAS!
CANT TOUCH DIIIIS!

what point are you trying to make? LMAOFushimi wrote:So if Skream had said "Request Line is a grime tune" you wouldn't like it?*DeCiBella~~ wrote: Dubstep and grime have one thing in common and thats BPM....

are we talkin about weather someone categorises ONE tune as grime or not... or are we talking about the style of that musical genre on a whole?!? I thought it was a general comparison of genre's......?
you've picked the one major 'cross-over' grime/dubstep tune and tried chattin like you've got a valid point. i dont really see where your coming from......mate.
hhhmmm theres always one

the point is that thinking about them as 2 entirely separate genres is mistaken. if you've seen skepta chat at fwd then u know that there's a lot more crossover going on than just request line. dem kind of 'no feeling, no soul' generalisations mean that the full potential for crossover/meeting in the middle/whatever you want to call it won't happen.*DeCiBella~~ wrote:what point are you trying to make? I also stated in that post that i WAS speaking 'generally' about the two generes!UFO over easy wrote:You've made an absolutely enormous generalisation and tried chatting like you've made a valid point. @ rachel
i stated my personal opinion about grime in general and that im not feelin it.... so to have someone come to me and say 'what about if skream said request line was a grime tune would you say you didnt like it?' i think thats a pretty silly question, as its one of the major cross over tracks isn't it...
grime & dubstep where both an evolution of garage so they both derive from the same form.... yes there is still alot of cross over etc
i said request line an an example as it was the one given to me!
im just stating my personal opinion about not feelin the general 'grime' sound and its MC's, i much prefer the dubstep...and prefer to think of them as two seperate genres, because for me they have key differences, which effect the way i feel about the sound.

So if you heard the shittest most boring dubstep tune ever, but the producer had used an £8000 reverb machine to add reverb to the snares - you are saying you wold like it more?titchyschneider wrote:yeah a lot of dubstep tracks have got boring ideas and not much happening but the quality of the sound is better. one thing dubstep does have though is the bass - i miss heavy basslines in grime.Alex bk-bk wrote:thats bull shit man

i get annoyed at this kind of talk !
Your point on the bass I can relate to though - I refuse to play productions which lack bass, with the exception of Wiley's "North London" and "16 Bar" purely down to the rudeness of the two beats!!!
at its peak, there was more musicality in your standard terror danjah, dizzee, target, davinche, wiley rhythm than 90% of dubstep.Plasticman wrote:So if you heard the shittest most boring dubstep tune ever, but the producer had used an £8000 reverb machine to add reverb to the snares - you are saying you wold like it more?titchyschneider wrote:yeah a lot of dubstep tracks have got boring ideas and not much happening but the quality of the sound is better. one thing dubstep does have though is the bass - i miss heavy basslines in grime.Alex bk-bk wrote:thats bull shit man
