Timecode Vinyl Setup
I know it's not really production, but I need some help choosing a setup.
I've been using traktor 3 with a Behringer BCD3000 to create mixes. I've managed to pickup from a friend a pair of turntables and some battered, but still working, traktor scratch vinyl. I was under the naive impression that I could just plug the turntables into the bcd3000 and it would work as a mixer and a soundcard, but I guess not.
I've been looking at the various ways I can get a vinyl/mp3 setup on the go (torq, serato, finalscratch etc.) but need some help picking one out. I know everyone will have their own personal preferences, but why?
I noticed that the torq setup with vinyls, interface and software is only $350, so this is pretty appealing, and I know a couple guys on here use torq, so is it a good buy?
I'm looking for something as cheap as possible tbh because I'm on a student budget. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The Torq software I found to be really poor and buggy, but the M-Audio Connectiv hardware is really solid and works great. (Specially for the money.)
What I use is MsPinky vinyls, with the M-Audio Connectiv, using Image Line's Deckadance and it all works SO smoothly, and i've had zero crashes.
You can use the Traktor vinyls with Deckadance also, I think. So all you need is a soundcard and the software of your choice.
M-Audio is a great buy for the money. It's like £130 quid for just the box + software (can't but without the software unfortunatly.) which is miles cheaper than any alternative here in England.

I'm pretty taken by the hardware, it looks pretty solid.
Thanks for the reply mate.
The latist 1.51 or whatever it is.
I mean, on reflection it wasn't that buggy, but defo more issues than in deckadance (which has run 100% perfectly, which is what i expect from a released piece of software i've paid money for!)
Standard Torq vinyls work in Deckadance also.
Also, Torq makes like .trq file for EVERY mp3 you play. This caused HAVOCK of my filing system. And as far as I know theres no way to turn that off. Deckadance doesnt do this. :p

Thanks for the replies.
Think I'm gunna go for the torq setup and maybe look to get different software if it doesn't work out. It's probs worth it for the hardware anyways.
Just to check, if I get the M-Audio Connectiv, torq vinyls, torq software and (obviously) a pair of decks, can I use my BCD3000 as a mixer until I can get hold of a proper mixer?

I'm using MixVibes atm, and its a quality product!
I got an ESI U46SE from Thomann.de about a year ago now i suppose, the first one they sent me was duff so i sent that back i recieved a new one a week later in the post, no grumbles whatsoever, even though im from England and Thomann as a company is based in Germany
I'm happy with my setup and was cheap as chips, about £160 to set up, with Mixvibes home, although ive upgraded to MixVibes Producer now!Soundcard has your basic 4 in 4 out, which is needed for any TCV setup, and cost about £65 , so take a look at that before you spend money on torq etc. The MixVibes software itself is really good value for money, take a look at this link if you want to see more! I'd reccomend it to anyone, ive had nothing with success with it on my Vostro 1500 which has a moderate spec, i run at 64 latency, which works fine for mixing, scratching, using the in built effects etc.
Mixvibes cross looks cool as well, havent used it yet but its basically an amalgamation of all the best features of producer and home editions mixed into a simple to use software.
I cant compare with other DVS systems, apart from Virtual DJ which i had problems getting to run on my hardware, and Mixxx which is a freeware program, and essentially sucks. I always hear good things about Serato, anybody i know who has that always raves about it, but its expensive for what it is, still worth a look!
Just my 2p!
Peace Out
Barney
