2004-2006 Dubstep

Post by intoccabile » Thu Jul 23, 2009 3:22 am

Amazing years !

So many brilliant releases in that period.

Things that stand out the most for me is Skream's mix in August 2004 and the original Skreamizm.

I remember literally RUNNING to the store to get my copy of Skinny / Splash, good times.

Getting back into the moody, dark, bass heavy numbers that would make the dance, as Bunzero said in another thread, " implode ".
what I do miss a lot personally in dubstep origins is the fact that for once the nuuum was bringing a total different purpose in the dance.
I mean before dubstep, from hardcore, jungle, d&b, breaks, garage,... everything was made to get the dancing crowd exploding.
When dubstep came and when it was played on appropriate sound systems it was the opposite purpose... implosion.
I agree that the " energy " during this period was very different.

What are the highlights ( releases, events, etc. ) of this period in your opinion ?

unfounatly i missed the first few of those years

gutted cos they are my favorite years music wise but of course the vibe of a new scene with no boundaries seems amazing.

Highlight for me is the 2005 loefah period.

Yea I've been getting into this stuff again recently,

Loefah - Goat Stare is pretty much the perfect example of this sort of stuff IMO, so dark!

As I repeat, I caught on the very tail end, but the tune that made me lose my shit...

Kode9 - Kingstown

The little chime noise, the fucked synths cutting through, the random reggae chord just slapping you out of nowhere.

Brilliant.
