deep lyrics

Post by ruckus49 » Fri Jul 24, 2009 9:11 am

can anyone recommend me some artists with deep lyrics? i like lyrics related to philosophical and sociological topics, not just people whining about their girlfriend.

You don't believe what you don't see
Each grain of sand beneath the sea
You have no faith in a dream
Fade into the landspace, unseen

In a field of weeds, killing time
A winding river rushes by
All the while you seem to be going blind
A cold numb grey in your eyes

Breathe in, breathe deep
A lifetime is too long to sleep
Staring at lightning won't keep you warm
You hear the thunder, but can't get out of the storm

Growing weak and thin
This has to end where it begins
Waiting for winter's first snow
To cover your tracks, so no-one will know

That you ever lived, or ever lied
You wouldn't give, never tried
No words worth air ever sound
From a flightless bird, bound to the ground

Breathe in, breathe deep
A lifetime is too long to sleep
Staring at lightning won't keep you warm
You hear the thunder, but can't get out of the storm
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother

There is a child sleeping near his twin
The pictures go wild in a rush of wind
That dark angel he is shuffling in
Watching over them with his black feather wings unfurled

The love you lost with her skin so fair
Is free with the wind in her butterscotch hair
Her green eyes blew goodbyes
With her head in her hands
and your kiss on the lips of another
Dream Brother, with your tears scattered round the world.

Don't be like the one who made me so old
Don't be like the one who left behind his name
'Cause they're waiting for you like I waited for mine
And nobody ever came...

I feel afraid and I call your name
I love your voice and your dance insane
I hear your words and I know your pain
Your head in your hands and her kiss on the lips of another
Your eyes to the ground
and the world spinning round forever
Asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over...

If youre not into this guy i highly recommend checking him out starting with this song..fuckin mesmerising. Other good lyrical artists are Bob Dylan (obviously), Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Bob Marley's lyrics can be very philosophical, to the point where hes seen as a prophet, Conor Oberst, Sufjan Stevens, Frank Zappa (a musical genius in every sense), Skunk Anansie/Skin, Bjork etc. etc.
DeepThought wrote: well lets face it, fluffy tights dont do it for everyone, but some like em, and some even feel the urge to sing about em.

ALLFLAWS from bristol

Post by darkvex » Mon Aug 03, 2009 12:34 pm

ALLFLAWS................You might dig it

Progressive and original lyricism merged with interesting electronic beats and arrangements. Intelligently mixing up
industrial, hip hop, trip hop and dance sounds with poetic sociopolitical vocals that
deliver a strong and potent message.

Pink Floyd - Time
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
