haha, i never said i liked 'that sort of thing', nor did i ask you to. getting the trumpeter from a band that's had 7 top 3 albums over the last 12 years (thank you wikipedia) to play on your album is wicked. beats a fucking VSTi anyway.juliun_c90 wrote:never really thought of 'jamiroquai' and 'cool' in the same sentence before. still, fair play to you if you like that sort of thing.colm wrote:boomnoise wrote:convinced with money of course.
i'm sure but i bet the guy can pick and choose who's paying him. i think it's cool anyway.
thoughts on "Skream!"
Thoughts on ''Skream!'': I saw it in a shop today, looked at the back briefly and noticed that there were several tracks on it. As I was looking at the back of the record, I heard two girls passing outside the record shop, talking about a lost jumper. I wondered what colour the jumper was, then inadvertently slipped the record up my anorak and walked out of the shop. The shop owner pursued me out into the street and, after a loud and foul mouthed altercation, beat me about the head with a broom handle until my brains splattered down my chest and belly. Ironically, my thoughts- insofar as they could be represented by a collection of cerebral mucus- were literally ''on'' ''Skream!''

I really love this CD and it's definately going to be in my top 10 albums of the year, no question. As I wrote in my review for Brainwashed, I could've done without JME's vocals on that one tune, but otherwise Skream! put together something really great that could serve as a gateway drug to the wonderful world of dubstep.
Don't hate on "Summer Dreamz" or "Check It" just because he tried something different, though by my standards he knocked it out of the park with that last one.

THEY CALL IT MURDA
THEY CALL IT MURDA
That's the only thing I can point my finger at. Have heard most of the tracks as a regular Stella Sessions listener so there weren't really any element of surprise. It doesn't make the album bad in anyway but the first time listening experience was somehow different. With that in mind I listend to the album from start to end in one go which is always a good signduck wrote:and you're all sure it's not just that you'd already heard the whole album before it came out?

im suprised by peoples reaction to the album
i think its sick
people have got to remember that this scene is not massive yet
and at the moment skream is one of the ambassadors of dubstep
if someone you know wanted to know what dubstep is about you give them skreams album it explains dubstep in all of its forms perfectly
i think people should lay off skream cos when you check it he is easily one of the godfathers of this musik

i dont even feel guilty, their first three albums are sick, theres no shame in it whatsoever, they wrote some brilliant music. i dont rate it how here you get slain for anything which isnt 'edgy' or which has a sax in it or something. bollocks to whats 'cool'tronman wrote:come one. guilty pleasure init. non?juliun_c90 wrote:never really thought of 'jamiroquai' and 'cool' in the same sentence before. still, fair play to you if you like that sort of thing.
who knows about 'jamie rock-wai' from the old mark and lard show on radio 1?
elgato i agree with your sentiment on a voltaire tip, but jamiroquai is just unfailingly awful imho! doesn't help that he's the world number one prick. fair play if u like that sort of thing tho... if i'm ill for much longer might have to start a guilty pleasures thread on o/t.

look i call the shots round here on what's cool and what isn't, right? contrary to popular belief 'cool' isn't a matter of taste or perception and isn't up for debate. cool is objective, quantifiable fact. as such i'm stating that jamiroquai aren't cool. i should know. i know cool. hell, i've got a new dub on the way with phil collins laying down some sweet keys. there's a fat guitar solo from santana just before the second drop too. shit's neckle...elgato wrote:i dont even feel guilty, their first three albums are sick, theres no shame in it whatsoever, they wrote some brilliant music. i dont rate it how here you get slain for anything which isnt 'edgy' or which has a sax in it or something. bollocks to whats 'cool'tronman wrote:come one. guilty pleasure init. non?juliun_c90 wrote:never really thought of 'jamiroquai' and 'cool' in the same sentence before. still, fair play to you if you like that sort of thing.

jamiroquai's first 3 albums were great (especially 1 and 2), and seen 'em live about 3 times prior to 98. everything after that was utter shit. jay-k fired the whole band before album 5, so the fact that skream hired his trumpet player isn't saying much. the guy must've been out of work since '97!elgato wrote:i dont even feel guilty, their first three albums are sick, theres no shame in it whatsoever, they wrote some brilliant music. i dont rate it how here you get slain for anything which isnt 'edgy' or which has a sax in it or something. bollocks to whats 'cool'tronman wrote:come one. guilty pleasure init. non?juliun_c90 wrote:never really thought of 'jamiroquai' and 'cool' in the same sentence before. still, fair play to you if you like that sort of thing.
plus, the trumpet player doesn't write any of the music and it's probably not even the same guy recording on every jamiroquai album or at every show. session musicians are a dime a dozen and having them on your album when you're a 16 year old dubstep producer with (apparently) no formal musical background, is an invitation for stale noodles.
just my opinion, but there's a difference between great jazz/funk music and noodly session "jazz" plugged in for the sole purpose of making one's album more "mature" or accessible. drum&bass has been making this mistake for years! dubstep, you should know better! nothing unique about "summer dreams."
ps. jamiroquai is the band. jay-k is the lead singer in the hat.

phil collins on dubstep would be sweet. i once saw an interview with that kid who starred in the we dont care video for the audio bullies saying how he fucking hated the audio bullies cos its "fackin stoodent music"...what do you like like pondered the interviewer... "phiwl collins...thass real music" he responded whistfully gazing skyward

i always thought the snares of 'in the air tonight' are quite dubstep.

Phil Collins is Skream's dad...not many people know that. Heavy snares are in the blood. And boy can Phil bang a drum!

the reason the trumpet player was mentioned is not to try and make soming sound kool. its was making a point to an earlier post.( i think soming was mentioned about it being dated and sounded borrowd..cant be f84ked to look back).
i think some people are looking to deep into this whole album. i dont think skream was trying to make a cross over or wotever. he just gave the world a chance to listen to some good music.

tbh im pretty surprised at this thread aswell..
i like more than half of it, pretty damn good for a dance orientated lp..
i think hes repped himself well, and dont really think hes sat there thinkin ooh i want this to top40, get me.
ive just looked at the tracklist again, and im sure most of the tunes on there have had threads started about em sayin they need a release and how big they are..
