so what kind of software/hardware were the composers of old video game music using? were they using midi trackers? what kind of sound banks / midi banks / soundfonts / samples were they using for 16/32 bit music like that anyway?

Is it me, or does the music @ 2.37 on the above video sound like Inner City's "Good Life"?

Music Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=998P6HEzCdI
think thats just a very typical old school chord...

How good is that streets of rage shit though.

also chaos engine had some banging rave music on it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3enImd8QVQ4

I was thinking about this to, did they compose the music then convert it or did they do it in some sort of engine or what.... wonder if you can get emulators... oh the possibilities!!

techno (sign these dudes to fuckin UR)

this is a very good point. that dr.wily tune is heavy. there's a comedy vocal version of it on the latter half of this SICK 8-bit gaming parody video. the second half with the mega man difficulty parody cracks me up. every. time. gaming fans WATCH THIS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3mpbx0w ... r_embedded

anyway, yeah, mega man tunes. i think nothing beats the melodies from the first game:

Cut Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAeIMQie ... re=related

Elec Man - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wmONSYv ... re=related

And on a completely unrelated, yet very high quality 8-bit note, the Ducktales Moon Theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_80PQ543rM
