I have a tendency to let the tunes roll out for a while when I am doing a recording or on the radio or just playing for myself. I have gotten past that stage where I just want to show off my skeeeilllz. When I play out tho I have a tendency to mix a lot faster. Sux because I'll play my whole set in 40 minutes and leave myself searching through my computer wondering what to play for the remainder.
exactly hate having a time constrained slot
gen 45 mins even planned out i'd prolly hit an hr
get me behind decks i zone out and do some quick mixing and some long
sucks with time constraint on you even when headlining

This entirely depends on the situation...
Sometimes I like to mix fast, chopping, cutting... Then I also like to double drop tracks and let them ride, sometimes I can do this for too long, and by the time I've mixed the track out, the track left has only 30 seconds left... If I'm playing out or recording, then usually I'll let my records play, more time to beat match and ensure they're spot on...

Timing is good if you have an idea as to specific segments of 2 tunes that will fit nicely but the biggest thing is to make sure the tunes are properly beat-matched tight and you know that one or the other isn't going to slip.
There are too many DJ's that can't keep their shit locked!

I do long mixes with most genres I play.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

I like to find tunes that have call & response with each other and I milk the mix
ideally, I drop the record as fast as possible, ride the records together for about 2 min and then go into the next tune

For me, it completely varies depending on the track that's playing and the track I want to mix in... I'm not entirely sure HOW I mix though, or whether I'm actually any good at it
I HAVE got a 30 minute mix up on my Soundcloud if anyone is remotely interested in how I mix (probs not but there ya go

)

sorry if this is taking the thread in a next direction, but Eops talking about all the genres he spins got me more interested.
how many of you spin different genres, or do you do strictly dubstep?
or like, do you specialize in a few particular genres?

spin an odd bit of old disco, just really fun to practice blends with sassy old 4/4 throbbers - disco still rules any house party
with drop-based dubstep tunes I like to match up intros with break downs
alot of the times I kinda just look at the grooves on a particular record and those will kinda tell you what to do

it depends on the tune really i mostly like to bring a tune in on the breakdown or before depending on how long the intro is... to get them both to drop at the same time but i keep my eq's down on the tune im bringing in lke no bass and then bring that in for the second drop as the first tune willl usually end just before the breakdown(having 3 decks is better for this type of mixing) but that also depends if the bass from both work well together il let em work it and mess about taking out bringing the other in messing with the bass and mids on the eq's could go on for years lol love playing on my decks
I'm trying hard to define my music style but.......... Down right granny raping filth just isn't enough!!!

i try and keep my mixes pretty long. When i mix a track in, i'll keep it in the headphones for the intro or half of it, then drop it in when the next track is ready like at a drop, big change or something like that. It's always fun to mix it in nice and slowly, start out with only highs then slowly tweak the mids and bass of the track i'm mixing in as i fade the other out with the eq knobs. It all depends on the tracks and whether or not i can beat match them easily. sometimes i like to just cut a new track in and have them mix for a couple minutes if they sound real good together.
