Audio output port fucked. Help...

Post by wooda916 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 3:13 pm

Easy,

The audio output port on my laptop is fucked, when i plug in my headphones, speakers etc the jack wobbles around like fuck and you have to fiddle about with it to get it to the right position so that sound comes out.

Does anyone know how i can go about fixing this?

Safe.

I have had it when absolutely no sound comes out when I put in my phones, or sometimes take them out. I couldn't even turn the volume up when this happens. Is this your case?

If you can't fix it maybe get a usb soundcard which you could plug your speakers into?

not a bad idea that one, how are external soundcards on CPU though?

yea a simple usb or firewire interface will prolly run you the same as getting the onboard card resoldered and repaired if you don't know how to do it yourself
plus better designed for production and recording too

Getting a external sound card will take strain off the cpu, so you should notice an improvement if anything at all.

surely that depends if you mean

or

one will run you about £20, probably sound exactly the same, probably wont make a noticable difference to cpu load.

The other is a different kettle of fish, should take load off the chip when doing more stuff, provide much better sound quality, allow you some flixibility with audio routing, better inputs and outputs but set you back a reasonable amount.

there are loads of threads on soundcards, section in the production bible on soundcards i'd give it a search and go from there.

http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/ultralite-mk3/
This one is the one I am saving to get, I think MOTU makes the best stuff. But of course it's all personal preference.
