Ok mate, I'll bottom line it for you........

If you buy crap turntables to learn to mix on you will get pissed off with them after about two weeks and probably give up. As they simply wont have the torque or a stable enough pitch control to do the job. Plus when you try and sell them you wont be able to recoup much, if any, of the hard earned ££ that you spent on them, which means that you will be stuck with a wank pair of decks ad no money to get any more.

The links you have posted are for products in the £200 range. If you have £200 to spend then you are so nearly at the point where you can afford a decent pair its almost untrue. All you need is around another £100. Now I know £100 is a lot when you dont have it but trust me even if it takes you a year to save up the money it will be worth it in the long run.

Cheap decks are cheap for a reason, they are made from cheap parts that have a very limited amount of life. So they may well break after a month or two and then you will be fucked. It is a false economy dont be suckered by fancy advertising slogans and flashy websites. If you want to take it seriously you need the proper tools, you wouldnt catch an apprentice carpenter saying ........ "I want to start off doing carpentry but I cant quite afford the tools, so fuck it Ill give it a go with a bread knife and a pair of nail scissors"

Finally I will be upgrading my decks soon (Numark TT500''s if you want to check em out online) so if you are still in the market for some then I would be more than willing to sell them to you for a good price (the guy who sold them to me did me a favour when I was skint so one good turn deserves another!)

Ill PM you when I am getting rid of them and you can have first refusal.

I know its frustrating having to wait when you are eager to get started but excercise some discipline and you wont be dissapointed. Trust.

Peace

thanks for this advice - this has been really useful. how much would you be wanting for your decks? that would be really helpful to sort that out, iv been having trouble finding second hand decks for a good price online cos most people seem to want me to pick them up... which would mean someone giving me a lift to wherever they are cos i dont have a car.

I reckon about £200 plus the postage would be cool. I paid £300 for them so its a good deal man....

They weigh 9 kilos a piece so it will be about £35 to send them to Leeds.

Check em out online in the mean time, they have some good features like: Quartz lock on the pitch control so you can adjust the tempo without changing the pitch and a 5.0kg/cm direct drive motor ( even the top spec Technics only have a 1.5kg/cm motor although dont get me wrong Im not saying that the TT's are better than Technics)

Anyways like I said Ill PM you when Im looking to shift em. :)

Peace

I'm in a similar position to sickboy really. At the moment, my only income is my student loan when I get it. I've been interested in mixing for about 6 months now, but only seriously been considering getting some decks for a month or so.

Similar to sickboy, my price range is pretty limited for a couple of decks and a mixer, I reckon I could possibly stretch to about £250-300 tops, depending on if I can budget properly. For that reason, I've been looking at getting CDJ's. I'd much prefer going down the vinyl route, but I know that if I get some turntables, I'd not be able to afford to buy many vinyl's for the next two years or so until I get myself into a full time job, so for the foreseeable future I think the only route I can take would be CDJ's or just leave it until I finish uni and manage to get myself a job that provides me with enough money to be able to afford to buy vinyl's on a somewhat regular basis.

Dude so get some from NuMark that are super cheap get-the-job-done players and a mixer with a decent eq.. ehem, numark puts all that in a desk for ya... they call it the CDMIX series... get a 3... they last forever, for some bare deals... n then take the 100 you save, and devise some kind of creative plan fore effects processing. Thats always so missed in what you need out of a mixer...

That, n those have phono ins n throw switch selection of input per channel... Which is badass for decks or drum machines/synths...

Def. my top pick for budget CDjs yo, you cant fuck wit Numarks uber-cheap shit, not just thier CDMIX line, but all thier cheapo cd products seem to do well... Stench pointed me in their direction a long time ago, so glad he did.

But, if you were to wanna dive in head first... behringer 4 channel and stanton cd players.

I'm doing the whole student thing too, been toying with production the last couple of years and really wanted to get a set of turnies.
Had been doing a bit of mixing with friends, and every time I went home/passed out - was cravin' my own set even more.
Picked up a set of second hand 1210s over here in NZ and haven't looked back (the bank account looking a little backwards from vinyl though)
Really, it's entirely up to you - you get what you pay for. I'm sure there are plenty of equivalent turntables to the proven brands out there though (technics, pioneer etc)
Just make sure if you go out buying used goods, you know what to look for.

if you're looking for good condition 1200s + mixer then I'd say about $500 but I've seen cheaper. I'm used to dealing in £s but when I was looking to get decks shipped over from the states they were usually between $300-500
How does I wobbled bass?

£350 is the going rate for a pair of technics in good cont.

Dont mention 'with a mixer' becuase a cheap mixer is a pile of shit and not even worth mentioning.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

That's $271.25 a table, if everything correlates... Not bad.
