The proof that fl sucks (?!)

Post by baddub » Sat Aug 01, 2009 4:59 pm

As it was explained in this topic the waveforms, which don't start at zero crossing cause your speakers/headphones to click.

The problem I came across in FL Studio is that it doesn't matter which vst you use. Nothing changes after bouncing the wavefrom to WAV and editing it. It doesn't even matter if it's a wave file generated in FL or any other soft. I used downloaded waveforms which started perfectly at 0. It always ends up clicking.

Taken to its logical conclusion, this would mean that every sample and generated sound causes clicking which leads to muddying your mixdown.

To illustrate:

Image

orange graph shows peak (click) frequency of a simple sinewave, compared to its normal frequency (yellow). As can be seen, there is a lot of unwanted frequencies.

What do you think guys?

PS. Tests performed in other DAW's would be appreciated.

Well, a file to test with would be useful if anybody's going to bother testing it.

Yep, it's a partial solution, but it doesn't solve the problem itself. I really want to know if it's a problem specific only for fl.

if it stops the click, it's not a 'partial' solution, it is the/a solution....

It doesn't stop the click it only makes it quieter (even with quite considerable attack and release values). Just compare two sines with a spectrum analyzer.

Any comparison tests with other DAW's? :)

Post by trike12 » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:04 pm

I would really like to know why people think fruity loops sucks. (except for this proplem)
i think its a good and simple daw and if you only use top notch vsts for plugins, whats left to moan about? (except this problem)

im NOT defending fruity loops, i just want to understand why its bad. (except for this problem ;) )

The real proof comes from the amount of great music being made using FL

No mac support.

It doesn't make it suck, but it does make me not use it.
