when you go to a gig you are required not to talk as a dj, anybody breaking this rule should be stripped of their dj'ing license immediately
I always thought It was the mc (if there is one)'s job to control the mic (hence the name mic controller)
edit: if there was no mc I still would not touch that microphone, get back to mixing, superstar

My personal view from the dancefloor would be "why does that dick keep talking just shut up and let me enjoy the tunes"
maybe people out there like the whole cheesy dj hype up the crowd stuff but I'd much prefer an mc to do the odd line over the top than a dj to spew out crap because he thinks he should.

I hope everyone else realizes it's master of ceremonies . . .Lowpass wrote:when you go to a gig you are required not to talk as a dj, anybody breaking this rule should be stripped of their dj'ing license immediately

Stranger Song: Confusing the dance with 2-step post-garage beats.

Re: question about dj'ing
like Lowpass was saying, somebody else would be doing that (if you want), even if you wanted to while DJing...you'd be getting distracted.ChronicRecords wrote:When you go to do a gig are you required to talk as a dj or that up to the mc, if thre isnt a mc do you have to talk throughout the gig and what kinds of shit do u say?

Most MCs are clowns, good MCs who know when to say something and what to say are few and far between.

I thought in the end it's all the same, but maybe it's a hip-hop (mic controller) vs. general event (m. of ceremenies) thing...don't know

I have started the habit of saying something to the crowd at least once in the middle of my set. Usually just once. I'll mix in a big tune then pull it back and say shti before I let it ride again. I think people dig that. I dislike MC's though, always have. They are good for the vibe of the party and all that, people respond to them but I am there for the music and if you need an MC to get people going then just hang it up and let someone else dj imoimoimo.
